Motifs[edit]

I added an entry regarding motifs in the short story, The Juniper Tree. The themes I added included cannibalism and the parallel between food and death. Citations were added. Morenoj (talk) 20:58, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bibliography Suggestions[edit]

I suggest adding the following scholarly sources to the article:

Suggestions for improvement[edit]

I have three main suggestions in order to improve the article. First off, I think that the synopsis needs to be shortened. The length it is now serves more as a Sparknotes page than a summary on Wikipedia. Secondly, I like what you did, Jonathan, in regards to adding the Motifs sections. However, I believe this section can be expanded. Lastly, I think that we should add a section for describing individually characters. That way the synopsis does not need to waste time explaining the characters. Rcarlton98 (talk) 21:28, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Additional sources and response to previous comment[edit]

I will add the following scholarly sources to the article:

In response to Rcarlton98, I agree on all of your points. Adding a characters list will shorten the synopsis. In regards to the motifs section, it is not yet completed. Coming soon! It is my full intention to add additional themes. More will be added by the end of the week. Your feedback is appreciated, thank you! Morenoj (talk) 21:59, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits[edit]

I have slightly changed the Synopsis. I took out a few sentences that I found to be unnecessary, edited words that I felt were bias, and added some information I felt was missing. I am planning to edit this section more later because I do not feel as if it is complete. Additionally, I added the characters header to the article. However, I did not have time to actually list out all of the characters yet. I am hoping to get that section done some time next week.

In response to Morenoj, I am glad to see all of the edits you have done so far. I am looking forward to continuing to work on this article with you! Rcarlton98 (talk) 01:14, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the synopsis back to Morenoj's version with some slight adjustments. I also edited the "Characters" section. Since most of the content was not cited, I felt it necessary to delete it. I also changed the placement of the characters in order to list them in order of importance. Rcarlton98 (talk) 18:35, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have reorganized the "Commentary" section of the article. It is now in alphabetical which I hope will make it easier to read. I have also added "Child Abuse" to the "Motifs" section of the article. However, I had some trouble citing this section. I used an article already cited on the page (under reference 12). If anybody could guide me in how I can cite an already exciting article that would be very helpful. Rcarlton98 (talk) 18:39, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I added a "Reincarnation" section to the "Motifs" section of the article. I added this section because I believe reincarnation to be a important aspect to the overall plot of the story. Rcarlton98 (talk) 21:59, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Revisions[edit]

I added a revisions section to the article. I am hoping that this section can eventually be merged with the Adaptions section in order to save space in the article. I added a source into the source lists as well as added an "introduction" header to the beginning of the article. I am also hoping to work on the characters section today which should allow me to shorten the Synopsis even more. Rcarlton98 (talk) 17:35, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the revisions section of this article. I felt that this section was two similar to the Adaptions section and served no purpose in the article. However, I did not completely get rid of the original post. Instead, I moved it to the Adaptions section. Secondly, I added a Guardianship to the Motifs section of the article because I found it to be a very common theme in "The Juniper Tree." I am hoping to do more edits soon! Rcarlton98 (talk) 18:27, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Revised Synopsis[edit]

Today I worked on the synopsis. I found the original to still be a bit long. It is now shorter and more concise while still offering a coherent plot description. I think Ruth did a nice job in adding the "guardianship motif" and Ashley did a great job too with the characters list. Keep up the good work guys! Morenoj (talk) 16:14, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Morenoj, I appreciated your revised version of the synopsis. However it appears that somebody came in and changed it. They increased the length to three paragraphs with a great deal of details. As there is no entry in the talk regarding this change I have reverted it back to your version. In addition, I fixed a few grammatical errors. Rcarlton98 (talk) 18:32, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Revisions to Motifs[edit]

I added two additional motifs to the section. These motifs included Song and Gift Giving. A citation was added. Morenoj (talk) 22:33, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I added one additional motif to the section. This motif is titled, "The Devil." A citation was added. Morenoj (talk) 20:20, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Section[edit]

I added a new section, “The Theory of Grimm.” A citation was added. Morenoj (talk) 20:45, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have added "Fantasy and Magic in Grimm" to the "Theory of Grimm" section. I believe that fantasy and magic is an overall theme in all Grimm fairy tales not just "The Juniper Tree". Therefore, I felt it belonged in this section. Rcarlton98 (talk) 15:57, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Another New Section[edit]

I added another new section titled, “The Original Translation and Background.” A citation was added. Morenoj (talk) 14:29, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

I added characters and their descriptions to the character section, like Rcarlton98 was talking about. I made the descriptions brief so let me know if more detail needs to be added. Ash h (talk) 04:03, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I added more details to the character list so that the synopsis can now be reduced in size and future readers will still get a significant amount of details about the story. Later I will edit the synopsis, making it more concise since majority of the details are now found in the character section. Ash h (talk) 05:05, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I added in background information about the origin of this book and about the genre of the book to the introduction to give readers a background when first viewing the page. I plan on adding on a subsection to the 'Theory of Grimm' focusing on the transformations found throughout most Grimm tales. That will be completed later on tonight if not, tomorrow. Ash h (talk) 02:20, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I added information about the last theme of family conflicts in Grimm tales and fairy tales in general. This allows for readers to see a connection between several different fairy tales at once. I added it under the 'Theory of Grimm' section of the article. Ash h (talk) 04:12, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Awkward singular Grimm references[edit]

There are various places in the text of this article, most egregiously in “ There is an apparent parallel between Grimm's The Juniper Tree and his previous works”, where “Grimm” is treated as one person rather than a pair of brothers.

Should this be corrected or am I missing something (or did something get lost in edits) indicating that only one Grimm brother edited this story?2601:1C2:5000:1472:A1AA:2448:7F2D:20EB (talk) 19:31, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
