Overview[edit]

PS 85 Queens is an Elementary Public School Established in 1907 we are considered a 100 year old historic landmark with several proclamations fron New York City Council and New York State Assembly

In order to teach our students the relevant importance of Wikipedia it is important to be listed as part of this growing document. Consider our school to be a point of reference and a pilot for 3000 other New York City schools who are all emerging into the vast world of imformation technology.

Students will access this point of reference and use the schools site to create their own Wiki's.

By no means are we advertising anything as we offer nothing for sale. We are not trying to attract any public attention, I have merely offered basic background information for curious visitors.

I am eager to learn about wikipedia and am open to any and all suggestions on how to correct my entry.

Although both of these Wiki's are further developed, they are no different.

What is needed[edit]

As the reviewing administrator, the article is not altogether hopeless, so I removed the speedy tag. Be aware that the article may well be nominated for deletion nonetheless through WP:AFD. There's a good deal of improvement needed: I started, by removing some totally not notable information: the list of duties of the various school personnel for example.

Please see WP:BFAQ and WP:COI for information about writing articles on subject close to you. And then see WP:FIRSTY for an idea of what WP articles should be like.

In practice, it is unusual for an elementary school to have sufficient distinctiive or notable features to be appropriate for an encyclopedia, and almost all such articles of deleted, or merged into an article for the school district. It is possible that the references might support it in this case--that will be for the community to decide.

WP uses "advertising" to mean "public relations" as well as commercial advertising. Comparisons with two of the most prestigious high schools in NYC are a little besides the point. Most articles on high school are considered encyclopedic, for there is almost always notable content such as famous alumni, or academic or athletics prizes. If I can help further, let me know. Wrong category! It's an elementary school, NOT a high school (right?)[edit]

Some investigation seems to show that the "Revision as of 09:01, 14 December 2007" (diff) was the one when the bogus entry << "[[Category:High schools in New York]]" >> was added.

But this school is NOT a high school! (right?) So, it does not belong in that category. (right?)

If so, then why did that mistake remain in the article for so long? Maybe partly because [almost] no one ever reads this article? That would be plausible.

If I do not hear differently (e.g., here on this talk page) within some reasonable time, I may look in to changing this. (Is there a category for Elementary schools in New York?) --Mike Schwartz (talk) 22:34, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
