Renewal of series?[edit]

I guess that's a possibility. Note that different sources cite different editions as the opening episode (something which could be a difference between the British and US transmissions) so there could be episodes which weren't aired in the States. Also, IMDB lists only eight of the episodes, so it's possible that Bob Hope appeared on the one that's missing from there. The Age mentions he was in the UK to film The Road to Hong Kong which was released on 27 April 1962, so that puts him in the country before that date, perhaps during the previous summer when Stafford was filming the shows. I did want to include a list of shows together with themes and guests, first date of broadcast, etc, but couldn't seem to find enough information for that. If you look here, Bob Hope is mentioned as one of the guests for the original 1961 package. It's possible the series was airing in Australia in 1963 for the first time. In the US, it seems there were 2 airings, in 1963 and 1964. The first mention of the Hope show, also with James Darren, was in 1963 on CBS. What isn't clear is if CBS purchased the entire package or just the one show with Hope in it. Then we go to 1964 and she is on a promotional tour for the series, which they indicate were being shown one each month. When she is doing the promotional tour in 1964, the shows are not being aired by CBS, but by ABC in the US. Then the story gets even stranger because it says there were 8, not 9 specials. So there's a possibility CBS bought the one Hope show and ABC bought the remainder of them.

Thanks for that, I'll put together an episodes section sometime this week. I agree with your thoughts on the ABC/CBS transmissions for the show, and things get even more complex because that site says there were eight episodes, but lists an hour long edition recorded in the UK in July 1959 which may have been a pilot, and not part of the later series aired in the US. When I saw that (1959 show), didn't know whether to laugh or howl. :-) At one point in the US, I believe it was being shown weekly as a summer replacement for a regular program. We hope (talk) 14:41, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you're interested in listing her radio shows and appearances, I believe I have a link for those also. A serious fan of old radio has a database where one can just enter the performer's name in a search and his database will list all comfirmed radio appearances of that person. Have some material I need to go over re: Jo Stafford that says she limited her television work because she was extremely nearsighted (have seen photos of her with glasses in some rehearsals); so much so that she had difficulty reading the cue cards which were part of television before teleprompters, etc. We hope (talk) 01:20, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I've been looking around and might be able to create an article for her radio show, both from this and a few other sources. Are you able to put her albums into some type of chronological order? Category:Perry Como albums If you have a look at Como's, you'll see they show which came before and after. I'm fairly good at getting images uploaded, and I could start looking for the covers for hers and uploading them. We hope (talk) 22:14, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think they are in chronological order in the article, but I'm not sure if that's possible with a category. I suppose the thing to do would be to defaultsort them with numbers. The album templates allow for preceded and followed, provided the information is filled in. The Como albums are done like this, but he made it a little "easier" by not having multiple albums issued in the course of any year, ;-) From what I've seen, there are a bunch of Jo Stafford albums which were issued in 1950 and 1955. If the chronology of those can be determined, the portion of the template dealing with which came before and after can be done. Let me see what I can do about the covers which are missing and get as many as I can uploaded and on the various pages. We hope (talk) 21:27, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. When I created the discography back in 2008 I got my information from a website which listed her albums, but I can't recall which one it was just now. I'll try to jog my memory as it's posible they might have been in chronological order there. Although, having said that, I seem to recall many of the 1950s albums were listed as being released on 1 January of a particular year. I'm guesssing that's in absence of an actual known date. BTW, your discography has many more album listings than there are WP pages for. Many of those that are in the list but don't have a WP page have available covers at either eBay or Amazon. If you want to create pages for them, I'll be glad to do the "shopping". Had to temporarily pass on some covers because either no one had them for sale or the photo wasn't good for here. (Either too small or taken at an odd angle, etc.) I was fortunate that much of the Como material on the albums was already here. Someone does have a Como website that has all the covers and information, so there's a "one stop" place for that. I noticed that some of those with the 1/1/ release date were issued only by Corinthian. It may be that either Capitol or Columbia recorded but did not release the album after it was originally done. Had read that Motown has a lot of material in their vaults which was recorded in the 1960s but at the time, everyone there had to take a backseat to their promotion of the Supremes. That's a shame when you think of all the other good artists who recorded for them, but I guess The Supremes were the moneyspinners. I think it was this site that I got my discography from, and I see one or two more albums have been added to it since then. I think I created original albums at the time then added a few 'best ofs' but wasn't sure if these would be dleted. They've stood the test of time so I might create articles for the rest when I have a spare couple of days or so to spend some time researching the site.
