Tagline[edit]

Wrong Car[edit]

Backwards Picture[edit]

The first picture that is in the "Plot" section with Hackman eating the pizza is backwards. In the movie he is to the left of his partner, not to the right, as is shown in the picture in the Wiki article. It needs to be reversed. Zeno333 07:43, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jetty Lane 500 ?[edit]

There is a Jetty Lane in Houston, Texas, and another in Warrnambool, Australia, but neither seems include 500 as the street address. StuRat (talk) 17:52, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because I did a Google search and found no such toy. I was also a kid at that time in the US so would likely recall such a toy. The Google search did find those addresses, and Jetty Lane sounds a lot more like an address than a toy, anyway. No way[edit]

"Put the car back together"?? That seems unlikely, based on what the cops did to it, and there is nothing in the movie to support that contention. As the officer tells Devereaux, they get hundreds of cars a day in the garage. It seems more likely that they replaced the car with another of like model and color, figuring that Devereaux had probably never seen the car before and wouldn't notice any subtle differences. Excellent Article.[edit]

Only two things that you did not include are 1)that because the movie went about $300K over budget, Richard Zanuck and David Brown were fired by the 20th Century Fox Board of Directors; and 2)Don Ellis's musical score really helped make that movie great. Ridgewood shoot[edit]

Quite a commotion when we heard they were shooting a movie scene in our neighborhood. Lots of my friends went to watch and even tried to get into a scene but were disappointed. They did say that a car was wrecked so they went to Meyer Chevrolet (Fresh Pond Rd and Metropolitan Ave) and got another. The scene was of the car screaming around the corner of Forest Ave onto Putnam (about a 5 second clip). Who'd have thunk it would end up such a historic blockbuster. Box office ?[edit]

According to the sources used in the article the domestic Box office for the movies was $51 million. But according to The Numbers it was only $41 millions and it's listed as the 4th Top Grossing Movies of 1971 [1]. Another source says that it was second most top grossing: "With 5 Oscar wins and second place at the box office that year, William Friedkin’s The French Connection paved the way for that trend by turning the classic cops-chasing-criminals movie genre on its head with innovation and style."[2] What figure is most likely right ?--Ezzex (talk) 01:15, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Censorship (deletion of two ethnic slurs)[edit]

In early June 2023, a number of websites, including Breitbart, independent.co.uk, and reddit, reported that the streaming version of the film at The Criterion Collection had been censored with little or no notice.

It's being much more widely covered now. There's a new editorial in The Atlantic against the censorship of the film. A Google search of French Connection brings up numerous articles about the film's censorship at reputable news websites and film websites.
