This can't be correct - the story being first published in 1986. Unless King made changes when the story was republished - which he has done in other works (see Home Delivery (Stephen King) for an example - to update topical references. Ellsworth 00:01, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just reread this story. In it, Waco was notable as a place with extremely low levels of violence. So no, he's not referencing the Branch Davidian events. --Irrevenant [ talk ] 13:04, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Why does the summary for "The End of the Whole Mess" say it is implied that the human race will eventually die off 'as adults start to forget how to care for newborn children'? Where in the story does the narrator imply that adults will forget how to take care of babies? Amberbrannon (talk) 03:44, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
