Dummy's name[edit]

Which is it, "Willie" or "Willy"? Does it change from "Willie" to "Willy" when he changes from being the dummy to being the ventriloquist? 2600:1004:B10C:3D6E:4175:B8C9:B082:C21F (talk) 01:18, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The DummyThe Dummy (The Twilight Zone) – The base title should be a redirect to the 28-entry Dummy disambiguation page which also lists The Dummy (1917 film) as well as The Dummy (1929 film). — Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 04:49, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support no primary. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:09, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Among the three subjects that could reasonably be "The Dummy" -- this page, and the two films -- we seem to have an overwhelmingly clear primary topic by page views. And the episode, which dominates in a google search for the title, seems to have extensive and significant book and web coverage. Directing users to a dismabiguation page of almost entirely subjects that could not reasonably be expected at "The Dummy" would hinder rather than aid reader navigation.--Yaksar (let's chat) 18:44, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Yaksar. You’d have to pretend WP:PRIMARYTOPIC does not exist to nom or Support this proposal. Please. —В²C 23:30, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, WP:OTHER STUFF EXISTS to an extensive degree — main title headers for 55 out of 156 episodes of the original Twilight Zone use parenthetical qualifiers. The markup for those titles may be viewed here. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 00:32, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not following. Of course ambiguous names for episodes that are not the primary topic for the name would be disambiguated. That’s not surprising. Should account for most of not all of the 55. If there are a few among them that are unnecessarily disambiguated, then that would be OTHERSTUFF that should be corrected. But unnecessarily disambiguating more of them, like this one, would be moving in the wrong direction. —В²C 00:54, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect to The Twilight Zone, an iconic series if there ever was one, all of its episodes whose main title headers have no need of a parenthetical qualifier are uniquely titled. The 55 that are not uniquely titled, use parenthetical qualifiers. "The Dummy" article was created in November 2005 and was a uniquely titled episode entry for nearly a decade. It is no longer uniquely titled and appears to be the sole primary-topic episode title among those 55 not-uniquly-titled episodes. If consensus decides that it should retain its unique primary status among all the episodes, then this RM will be the vehicle through which such a decision would be confirmed. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 04:33, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It’s probably worth reviewing the 55 to see if there are any other primary topics among them which should be moved accordingly. It’s unlikely this is the only one. But even if it is, that’s not an issue. —В²C 11:53, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough — an argument for WP:BEFORE. Glancing over the previously-linked markup, confirms that early episodes "Walking Distance" and "Escape Clause" are also minor primary topics while "The Lonely (The Twilight Zone)" may well be a candidate for primary topic. With that in mind, each instance presents its own unique set of circumstances and since this RM has already attracted comments, it may as well run its course and remain as a historical record as well as a prototype, however slight, for any potential discussions on this general subject. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 14:13, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose primary topic per both page views and long-term significance. Page views show practically no one is going from this page to the other The Dummy articles. Ribbet32 (talk) 01:31, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
