Premiere cast[edit]

According to Amadeus [1] Euphrosyne Parepa sang on 28 February 1861, and Lemmens Sherrington on 6 March. Is this an error? Do we have good sources on this? (There is no article in Grove.) --Kleinzach 02:34, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to a contemporary review of the opening night in The Players p. 283, Lemmens-Sherrington sang the title role. In The Mapelson Memoirs pp. 28-29, Lemmens is listed as having sung the title role in the premiere run at Her Majesty's with Parepa taking over the role when the opera transferred to the Drury Lane Theatre. I'll add an inline cite for this. Also the piano vocal score published in 1861 describes Mary's arias "as sung by Mme. Lemmens Sherrington." I can only assume that the listing in Amadeus is an error. They do make them occasionally, as does Grove. Voceditenore (talk) 07:27, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

See Talk:Maritana. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:03, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-added the infobox I created this article, and am its major editor. At the time, we had no suitable infobox for operas, although one has since been developed by Wikiproject Opera and is now used in over 350 articles on individual operas. A relevant image from the opera is appropriate and an improvement. The basic facts at a glance, are helpful to the reader, and certainly not detrimental to the article in any way. The navigation toWallaces's other works already appears at the bottom of the page, the standard location for such navigation bars, and does not need to be repeated at the top of the page.
