Deletion[edit]

I don't think this article should be deleted just because it might be confused with another theater troupe in San Francisco. How can the article live up to "significant coverage in reliable sources"? This seems very arbitrary since it does have references to what I understand to be "reliable sources". This school has been around for 30 years. How many does it need? I am going to add back a reference to Brian Krause and reference the article in Backstage West. I will dig up other sources but it would help me if you let me know what the criteria is since I had thought that the article had already lived up to the sources requirement of Wikipedia. STempleton2, the comment about the troupe in SF is there because at first glance it appears there may be stories about the LA shop, but the articles are actually about the SF group. "Significant coverage in reliable sources" is a reference to Wikipedia's general notability guideline, a yardstick that articles are judged for inclusion. For instance, the reference in Backstage West is probably sufficient to include Brian Krause as alumni, but for the entire article to be notable, significant coverage in reliable sources still need to be found. For instance, if LATimes has written about The Actors Workshop as a whole, that would go a long ways.

Compare this to a mention in LATimes- for instance, "Celebrity X has died, and they were involved in The Actors Workshop while alive." That's a trivial reference; it's suitable for determining that X was an alumni, but not to establish notability of The Actors Workshop. tedder (talk) 18:49, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

However I am concerned that since the Orange County Register does not meet your requirement for notability that I will be unable to find an article in the Los Angeles Times. Can you list some of the other publications you would accept? STempleton2 (talk) 17:10, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OC Register is fine, but it'd be nice to get an article title, author, section/page number, etc so the reference can be verified. It doesn't have to be accessible online, but should at least give a researcher more information about how to find it. See WP:SOURCES for an idea of what a reliable source is; Backstage West is farther down the totem pole because it is industry-specific. One rough rule of thumb is that if it doesn't have a Wikipedia article, it's probably not the best source. tedder (talk) 17:16, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
