Comment[edit]

Should probably mention references in Friends: Phoebe wore a T-shirt of the show and Marlo Thomas appears as Rachel's mother...I think...

She did. I forget the name of the episode, but it was the one where they're all playing a game of flag football. As for the one with Marlo Thomas, that was The One with the Lesbian Wedding. Jennifer Anniston had a really funny line from that, "If she wants to be like me, why doesn't she just copy my hairstyle or something?" Funny for two reasons; 1)It's a jab at all the women who were getting the Rachel haircuts at the time, and 2)Both Anniston and Thomas had hairdos every girl was trying to copy when their respected sitcoms were in their prime. ----DanTD (talk) 13:53, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Overt Falsehood[edit]

"That Girl was the first show to focus on a single woman who was not a domestic or living at home." Patently false. Both "Private Secretary" and "The Ann Sothern Show" both predate; in both Ann was a single woman who was not a domestic or living at home. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.16.111.20 (talk) 23:41, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed Sothern on both her shows presented herself as a single girl who was not necessarily looking for a husband especially in the second role where she played an asst mgr of a hotel. The thing was Sothern was quite along in years so perhaps it should be the first YOUNG single woman.

Agreed. Our Miss Brooks also focused on a single woman who was not a domestic or living at home. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.221.90.208 (talk) 12:08, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting: it's been about five years since this little discussion and the article hasn't changed. Either no one cared enough, or it was changed back. So I fixed it. 70.180.44.94 (talk) 03:38, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Animation[edit]

Marlo Thomas' character also received the animation treatment during the Seventies. The culprit here was Rankin-Bass and though credited as 'That Girl' in the animation, it was called 'That Girl in Wonderland.' Though Marlo was the only voice from the show, the story tells of Ann Marie accidentally being mistaken for an assistant editor applicant for a children's book publisher. Originally Donald got her the position of secretary.

Nonetheless, as Ann is given an assignment for coming up with an original concept for a children's storybook. Inadvertently, Ann ends up daydreaming as many famous heroines from storybook tales from 'Cinderella' to Dorothy from 'The Wizard of OZ.' Almost accidentally getting herself fired in the process. However, as with most episodes of its live-action counterpart, Ann manages to get through it all.

Ironically, just like the animated 'sitcoms' (Jeannie and My Favorite Martians), Ann Marie was given a cute character not originally from the series. In this case, Ann was given a pet dog in the special. Though the production's in the typical Rankin-Bass style, you might say before it began taking off in the late-Eighties, Ms. Marie had a real 'Ann'-ime appearance in her animated form. Sorry, for the pun, but I thought I'd mention the special since it also pertains to That Girl directly.

Character list[edit]

Should we have a character list in the article, or a separate article for a list of characters? ----DanTD (talk) 15:13, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As a start this article should have at least a basic character list. I expect that a full character list would easily fit in the article, but if it gets too large then there may be reason to split it out then. For the time being though, the character list should be included here. --AussieLegend (talk) 15:17, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've got one in my sandbox, but I keep thinking I'm missing some data. ----DanTD (talk) 21:00, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
UPDATE: I added it anyway. Fix what you have to fix. ----DanTD (talk) 20:21, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
