Native of?[edit]

How can he either be a native of Tucson or Los Angeles? Professor water 00:49, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

LA Times says one thing and the Washington Post says another. I'm too lazy to email the reporters. lots of issues | leave me a message 07:26, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a Yeoman in the USCG - Have met Admiral Allen, and have read his official bio and parts of it many times. He considers himself an Arizona native, and that's reflected on all official USCG websites and printed matter. USCG Commandant[edit]

A statement from DHS Secretary Chertoff on Allen's appointment to be the 23rd commandant of the USCG dated 3/30/2006:

Statement by HOMELAND SECURITY Secretary Michael Chertoff ON THE Confirmation of Thad Allen as Commandant of the Coast Guard

I am delighted that Thad Allen has been confirmed by the Senate as the 23rd Commandant of the United States Coast Guard. Thad is a highly-respected Coast Guard veteran who has served our nation with distinction for more than three decades. He will more than justify the confidence that the President and Senate place in him. I commend the Senate for acting quickly to confirm Thad, and I look forward to his continued leadership at the department.

Current article says 20th. This needs to be clarified. --G1076 17:02, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Their website is sort of confusing on this. It looks like the "Captain Commandant" was created in 1908. The second guy was elevated to that even though he had retired, and the first guy was dead. So, I guess 23rd is right - he's the 23rd person to hold that position, though not technically the 23rd commandant. This link talks about the elevation thing. --Awiseman 21:50, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone check this edit: [1]? The user is vandal (in at least one case) and this may be vandalism too. TIA Pavel Vozenilek

It's not vandalism in this case. I beleive it is accurate but I will verify. I looked at edits from that IP address and am hard pressed to find a habit of vandalism that would justify questioning each of his edits on every discussion board. Pesco 16:15, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

THADmiral?[edit]

I reverted the nickname THADmiral since it doesn't seem likely and was added by an IP user with a history of vandalism. If anybody has solid info, feel free to add it back in. --L. Pistachio 04:42, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've heard it, and I saw it on an alumni site. [2] Not sure how wide-spread it is, and it's certainly not an 'official' nickname. --Pesco 04:07, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Term of office[edit]

i see no mention of when his appointment was effective, or when he will retire.Toyokuni3 (talk) 18:14, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who knows. There aren't any media reports about this, so either way it's not something that could be included in the article. ~PescoSo saywe all 11:14, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Two 4-stars in the USCG[edit]

I was wondering if anyone would happen to know if it is unprecedented to have two four-star Admirals on active duty in the Coast Guard serving at the same time. While not a huge deal, it seems that it could be noteworthy. I haven't done the full research, but checking the past couple of commandants, they typically retire when their term is up as there aren't any other four-star billets in the CG. If correct, this tidbit could also be noted in the articles on the CG Commandant and the USCG. Mego2005 (talk) 12:09, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No Vietnam Service[edit]

Admiral Allen does not wear the Vietnam Campaign or Vietnam Service ribbons. His official biography does not mention Vietnam. I can find no source that mentions his Vietnam service. I propose removing the "Vietnam War" entry under "Wars/Battles". Fideo (talk) 13:58, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
