Taxobox Picture Change[edit]

I changed the picture in the taxobox, as, the picture of "Tetraodon (Egypte)" is of a member of the genus Arothron.--Mr Fink (talk) 05:49, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated taxonomy[edit]

Resolved

Only a handful of African freshwater species remain in this genus. Others have been moved to Dichotomyctere (most Asian species) and Pao (barbatus, palustris). See Kottelat 2013: The fishes of the inland waters of Southeast Asia: A catalogue and core bibliography of the fishes known to occur in freshwaters, mangroves and estuaries.
Two are invalid (implutus=Arothron hispidus, waandersii=Takifugu oblongus). Note that Catalog of Fishes got it all right, but FishBase messed up barbatus (likely because it was revalidated in Saenjundaeng, Grudpun & Vidthayanon 2013 at the same time as Kottelat 2013 was published, meaning that that the latter didn't recognize it) and the two invalid names (implutus, waandersii).
