Tersko-Orlovsky MayakTersko-Orlovsky Lighthouse – The article in the Russian Wikipedia is at ru:Терско-Орловский Маяк. It seems to be better to use the English word for the item rather than the transliterated Russian one. The English form is used in the literature, see, for example, page 304 of Global Climatology and Ecodynamics: Anthropogenic Changes to Planet Earth. --Bejnar (talk) 23:15, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. The article is not about a lighthouse but rather about the inhabited locality named after that lighthouse. The word "Mayak" here is a part of the proper name, and proper names are not normally translated into English (it's the same as with Nizhny Novgorod, where "Nizhny" means "Lower" in English). The ref above refers to a meteorological station, which is in the actual lighthouse, not in the inhabited locality. If one were to create an article about the lighthouse itself, then of course that article would use "lighthouse", not "mayak". Note also that the "Mayak" form is the one approved by the US Board on Geographic Names, as a search here would easily confirm.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); October 3, 2012; 12:05 (UTC)
