Early Question[edit]

which is more uplink or dowmlink frequency and why???

That depends on the application. Typically leaf node or user end terminal equipment will have larger downlink bandwidth (because users want content and do not often have the need to serve or provide content). 173.50.233.227 (talk) 16:41, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Uplink?[edit]

There seems to be something missing here. I quote from Private VLAN:

The uplink will typically be a port (or link aggregation group) connected to a router, firewall, server, provider network, or similar central resource.

This definition doesn't seem to be covering that usage at all. - KitchM (talk) 03:43, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This definition might not cover such usage but it is at least consistent with it. The general communications rule of thumb is that links that go from a leaf node or more external node to a node more central in a network are uplinks and the reverse are downlinks. Other uses are perspective based. Stuff flowing away from a terminal is usually considered to tbe up direction and the reverse the down direction. 173.50.233.227 (talk) 16:46, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Overlaps computer network concepts[edit]

As noted by the above question. At least should expand the lead to include non-satellite neworks (e.g. most mobile phone networks seem to use the term). At least link to Upstream (networking) and Downstream (networking). And we need at least one diagram. I have been meaning to do this if I get time. Merge from Data link[edit]

Fgnievinski put up some merge banners. Seems like a reasonable proposal to me. ~Kvng (talk) 21:18, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Datalink is the specific linking of usually mobile transmitters/receivers, such as SATCOM, ACARS, CPDLC. It will continue to be further developed and specialized like the EU's Link2000+ Data Link or Future Data Link application for autonomous systems. Telecommunications link is between stationary systems or one stationary speaking to many mobiles. Data Link is unique.
