Brilliant observations of a POV editor[edit]

This is a note that a someone left for me on the Tantura page.

"Oh dear better tell the Dor page to remove their info. And it is part of the Judaism Project, well I never fancy them lying Gilabrand.Ashley kennedy3 (talk) 19:26, 10 June 2008 (UTC)" I thought this might interest editors on this page.--Gilabrand (talk) 20:16, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Dor" means "generation" in Hebrew, but can also signify a "habitation".[edit]

Most often in Hebrew, the word Dor relates to time, i.e. a generation. However, in Biblical Hebrew it can also mean a "habitation" (c.f. Isaiah 38:12, Psalms 49:20). Since Dor was the name of a city, this second meaning would seem to apply better than the first.

Excavations[edit]

Plenty of mention of who and when have excavated, but there is pretty much no mention of what those excavations have revealed. — al-Shimoni (talk) 20:02, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dorians[edit]

You mention Doric (as in the column) comes from Dor which is wrong! Doric comes from Dorian, a people of uncertain origin who invaded and came to inhabit a number of Greek places such as the Mycenaean domain and... Crete! It is therefore even possible that the name Dor comes from Dorian, following Minoan collonisation. It's always interesting how many people of limited scholarship try to re-interpret and re-define history from their own current (and usually narrow) national/racial/ethnoreligious perspective. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.202.55.168 (talk) 14:19, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
