In November 2009, this article did not survive a deletion discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ted Andrews. I have rewritten the article because I found new sources citing Andrews in scholarly works, and because WP:AUTHOR says notability belongs to the author who "is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors", which is certainly the case with Andrews in his field of shamanism. Ugh. Wikipedia used to be soooo prejudiced against religion, mysticism, occultism, and magic. The chief tools for deletion back in to 2000s were to claim non-notability and self-publication, even when both were untrue. I was part of the original deletion discussion in 2009. I voted Strong Keep, but we lost.
In response to the Wikipedia deletion, someone started a Facebook fan page for Ted. It is still active at this time: Facebook Ted Andrews Fan Page. I was so turned off by the deletion that i never checked back to see if the page would resurface, until today
Today, i mentioned Ted on my podcast, live, in real time, and decided to grab his birth and death dates online. To my surprise, the Wiki article was back! Meanwhile, he has not been forgotten, for in the podcast's chat room, folks were typing about how important his work was to them and recommending his books to younger folks. Yes, he was notable, and also much respected.
I am glad to see that with Wikipedia's editorial tools being taken up by more Asians, Latinos, African-Americans, and women, the good-old-white-boy-atheist club has lost its former control of this site. Ted Andrews should never have been deleted, and it took only four years to bring his bio back.
