The Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 (or "the Maori Land Act 1993") is a statute of the New Zealand Parliament which outlines how Maori Land is to be governed in the future to try to ensure the retention of ownership within the hands of Native Maori while looking to also make sure that the land is commercially viable. Land is described in the Act as "taonga tuku iho" literally translated means "A treasure handed down" which emphasizes the Act's purpose of looking to ensure this land is retained under Maori ownership.

Proposed move to Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993[edit]

Articles should only have one title, although alternative names may be mentioned in the lead.

Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) dictates: "The title of an article should generally use the version of the name of the subject which is most common in the English language, as you would find it in reliable sources (for example other encyclopedias and reference works). ... If one name is clearly most commonly used in the English-language references for the article, we should probably use it. If (as will happen occasionally) something else is demonstrably more common in reliable sources for English as a whole, and this is not a question of national varieties of English, use that instead."

Google searches suggest that "Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993" is used slightly more than "Māori Land Act 1993", although the figures are comparable. Usage (including in the Act itself) also appears to favour the former (Māori) version, as it appears first when both are mentioned. Therefore, I suggest that this version be adopted in the title, despite the usual convention to use English names.
