Drones or missiles?[edit]

The lead sas On 27 October, 2023, two drones were fired, but then later talks about missiles. Which is correct? — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 01:26, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oops; two of the sources say drones, one says missiles/rockets. I'll switch over the drones, as it seems there is a weak consensus that it was drones. BilledMammal (talk) 01:30, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 30 October 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: merge to Houthi involvement in the 2023 Israel–Hamas war (non-admin closure). Once the merge has been carried out no prejudice against revisiting the title of article with a new RM if anyone so desires. Note please do not try to perform a histmerge – it was not a cut-and-paste move that created the new article – a normal merge will be fine. Jenks24 (talk) 10:41, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Taba and Nuweiba drone attacksHouthi attacks during the 2023 Israel–Hamas war – What's notable here is the involvement of the Houthis in the broader 2023 Israel-Hamas war. In addition to these drone attacks on 27 October, there were also cruise missile attacks on 19 October. Article should reflect what's notable. Longhornsg (talk) 20:08, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the proposed article name. David O. Johnson (talk) 20:46, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose because a) the proposed title doesn't include drone; b) we don't usually include perpetrators in titles of articles about attacks; c) that title doesn't say where they happened. The proposed title would be suitable if there were many attacks by the Houthis that are related to that war. Jim 2 Michael (talk) 21:38, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim 2 Michael, The article already covers multiple attacks by the Houthis related to the war. The title should not include "drones" because the attacks include drone attacks and cruise missile attacks, so saying "drones" would be inaccurate. The attacks occurred all over the Levant, so including a location would be inaccurate as well. Longhornsg (talk) 23:01, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
When I moved this article, it didn't mention any of the events of 19 Oct, only what happened with drones on 27 Oct. The para on 19 Oct doesn't mention where it happened. Jim 2 Michael (talk) 00:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose It looks like the scope of this article has been broadened; I think they're distinct enough incidents that each should go in its own article. David O. Johnson (talk) 01:12, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there's enough info about them to have a separate article for the 19 Oct events, they should be in a separate article. If so, this article should retain its current name. Jim 2 Michael (talk) 01:47, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@David O. Johnson@Jim 2 Michael I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think theres enough there for each attack to have its own article. However, what's developing is broader Houthi involvement in the Israel-Hamas war, which this article could reflect. Longhornsg (talk) 20:57, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We need to agree on the scope of the article before we can reasonably agree on its title. Jim 2 Michael (talk) 23:28, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support as of October 31st EST with the news that there were more drone attacks on Eilat today. If this continues, it's worth at least creating an article for it, but I see no reason to not then merge this with that future article, so we should just rename it. OJDrucker (talk) 13:14, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing relating to events of today are in the article. Should all Houthi (attempted) attacks on Israel be in this article? Jim 2 Michael (talk) 14:01, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If I'm reading this right, there has been a fourth:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/idf-says-it-intercepted-aerial-threat-over-red-sea-near-eilat/
I could get behind an article pairing the two most recent attacks, along with a separate article on the first interception by the USS Carmey, and this article staying with the current title. David O. Johnson (talk) 23:44, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I would support this being renamed / merged into an article about Houthi attacks during the conflict. I'm not sure this specific strike needs to have it's own article absent that. OJDrucker (talk) 20:22, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now we have Houthi involvement in the 2023 Hamas-Israel war, I'll try to merge. – SJ + 01:23, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support – This should be merged with Houthi involvement in the 2023 Hamas–Israel war as the latest developments. As noted above, this specific strike does not need to have its own article. --Omnipaedista (talk) 22:06, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Article scope[edit]

This article originally began as a short couple paragraphs about the 27 October Houthi drone attack targeting Israel as part of the Yemen-based group's initial salvos in the war. We've since added the Houthis' 19 October cruise missile attack. Since then, the Houthis launched another drone attack on 31 October and possibly on 1 November. This comes alongside a flurry of RS about the Houthis entering the fray into the 2023 Hamas-Israel war: Reuters, NYT, Telegraph, ABC, et al.

Based on initial conversation in the RM above, I propose to expand the article's scope to Houthi involvement during the 2023 Israel–Hamas war. Once the RM above closes, we can do a formal RM to Houthi involvement during the 2023 Israel–Hamas war. Longhornsg (talk) 20:26, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've merged this into Houthi involvement in the 2023 Hamas-Israel war, let's continue discussion on the talk page there. This is definitely not the right title at this point, despite being the older article; we can try a history merge. – SJ + 01:44, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
