Formal name[edit]

Based on their contact page and the logo it would appear that the correct name for the school is TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas. Vegaswikian 21:42, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My only comment would be that formal name or not, the only name you ever hear used is Texas Military Institute. Even in Wikipedia, last time I looked everything was either piped that way or uses the redirect. — Laura Scudder ☎ 21:32, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  - Nein, nein, nein. The name used in all school literature, except that specificly related to the JROTC program, written after 2005 is T.M.I.-The Episcopal School of Texas. While Wikipedia does not always use official names, it should unless a de facto name is demonstrably and considerably more common, is, not was. Pelegius 01:07, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    - There was at least one earlier Texas Military Institute, operated in Austin during Reconstruction. It existed in Bastrop before the Civil War, and was reopened after the war as Bastrop Military Institute. It was soon relocated to Austin, and operated there until the 1880s. I think we should reverse the name change, as there has been movement in the school to change it back. While there has been backlash against the name change, the school is sticking to its decision. It is T.M.I.-The Episcopal School of Texas. Not everyone thinks the name change is a bad idea, particularly those who are not affiliated with the school (two-thirds of the students are civilians). The name might not be the most lyrical, but it is more accurate, including the military with the TMI acronym and the Episcopalian element. The article should remain the same. Removed Faculty Member[edit]

I removed "Rodger Kramer" from the Notable Faculty section as there is no chemistry teacher named "Rodger Kramer." There is however as chemistry teacher at TMI named "Roger Kramer," (as it is spelled on the website), but I think there needs to be reason given as to why he is notable. Yes, I know, those who know him say he is notable, but for the sake of the article, documentation and information should be given. LiberaLibra (talk) 05:07, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this article, which I started, has gotten a little self-agrandizing. However, this is a problem which most school pages come up against. If User:Travellingcari would be so kind as to mark any particularly egregious sections, I am sure we would all be interested and could then work towards fixing it. In retrospect, "unencyclopedic" might have been closer but the tone of this article does not read like an encyclopedia article but rather a school brochure. The hymn is not encyclopedic content, nor is the trivia. I stumbled upon the page accidentally when one of my 'favorite' vandals was warned for his/her edits and I came here to make sure it had been reverted. This could benefit from some elucidation. Speaking as somebody who was not educated at a private school in Texas I have no idea whatsoever what a "1A public school" is or what "non-district games" are. It sounds to an outsider like a bit of snobbish jargon - a 1A public school is presumably one of the best public schools and thus just about worthy of playing sport against the toffs. Actually, no. The number of 'As' a school has reflects its size as used to categorize it for athletic events. The 1A designation refers to the smallest schools.

Another baffling paragraph[edit]

Religion and Philosophy: 1 year consisting of two of the following: Old Testament with theology, New Testament with theology, world religions and the history of the Western philosophical tradition.

Does this mean, 'One of: a. Old Testament with theology, b. New Testament with theology, c. world religions, d. the history of the Western philosophical tradition.', or, 'One of: a.
