RECENT ADDITIONS[edit]

Guys, thanks heaps for all the recent contributions to this article, but I have to point out that a lot of the recent edits have been non-encyclopedic. We are not writing to persuade students to enroll at this school; we are writing an informative, neutral entry into an encyclopedia. The sections that I think are in need of attention are listed here:

  • Teachers: It goes without saying that "Teachers are dedicated to preparing students for success - blah blah". Also The way this section is written violates NPOV. To be honest I think we just dont need this section considering that there is no documented proof that teachers at Balmain Campus are any more noteable than teachers at other schools.
  • Trivia Night: Remember we are not trying to write a newspaper, or an article for a school newsletter. I really don't think this is all that relevant enough to be included in a wikipedia entry for a school. However, if you really do think that this information is important I suggest you at least put it under a new section "School Traditions" or something along those lines.
  • College Drama Night: Same as above, we are not trying to write a newspaper!
  • Canteen: This section is not really needed at this stage of the article's early development. I reckon we should wait until this article is at least at "start class" level before expanding on the school canteen. Also this section is not written at an encylopedic standard (and most probably violates NPOV).
  • Changes made in 2007: This section belongs at the bottom of the article.

It might help you guys out a bit if you check out these pages, Wikipedia:Manual of Style, Help:Starting a new page just so we can raise the standard up a little.

Hopefully we'll be able to change this over the next few weeks and get this article into better shape (I havent been doing much lately I've been really busy, basicley yr 11 sucks haha). But those matters aside, thanks again for the recent attention to this article, keep up the hard work. ;D Jason McConnell-Leech 05:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We need help stopping vandalism[edit]

I attend this school and have done most of the editing so sorry if I wrote it like a newspaper im kinda new to this. Well there has been alot of vandalism to this page recently and I know who the people are that are doing this but they wont stop no matter what I tell them so we need to block those IPs temporarily. so can anyone help with that?RiseDarthVader 06:59, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can't exactly block someone just like that. My recommendation is to keep up the hard work, properly warn the vandals on their talk pages, and head over to WP:AIV if the issue continues. Jmlk17 08:40, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah don't worry, I'll semi-lock the page so those IP's cant edit it anymore. And also thanks again for your attention to this page, even if it is written like a newspaper a bit, I can fix it so it sounds better haha. Jason McConnell-Leech 08:41, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Note, this is not the best way to go about this issue. Jmlk17 08:48, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah but it's the best short term fix, and we simply do not have enough time to bother with all this vandalism. Thus I will temporarily semi-protect this article untill we can do something else to stop the vandalism.Jason McConnell-Leech 08:53, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure you understand. Simply adding the template does nothing. You must request the protection at WP:RFPP first. Jmlk17 08:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I've done that, but even though the tag wont do anything until the request had been accepted, I think that having it there at the top of the page will hopefuly still deter some vandalism. I suppose if you seriously object to that we dont have to do it, but it's the best we can do until we recieve semi-protect approval.Jason McConnell-Leech 09:05, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Damn the people doing all the vandalism have now made accounts! we need to to protect this page now from everyone else except you and me. RiseDarthVader 07:33, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kfc123 is the account that does some of the vandalism on these pages is there any possibility of blocking this IP for a few days? RiseDarthVader 08:10, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I'm going to report him and the other guy, considering this has not been the first time they have vandilised this page, they will hopefully get banned.Jason McConnell-Leech 11:11, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This tag is no longer needed, the offending sections have been removed.Jason McConnell-Leech 08:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Specialites[edit]

This section needs a re-write. It is true that Balmain Campus does have a noteable support unit, however, the statements about the selective streaming does not belong in this section. I'm suggesting we remove the selective streaming statements, expand a little on the support unit, and also re-name the section Support Unit.

any objections?

Jason McConnell-Leech 09:18, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No go ahead I agree. RiseDarthVader 09:45, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also going to remove the "clean up" tag. I addmit this section does still need some work, but I reckon that's the best we can do for now; It's at the same standard as the other sections.Jason McConnell-Leech 09:55, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I dont think the changes in 2007 need a citation because I know from first hand experience lots of people were complaining and some even started a petition.

All statements that are likely to be challanged, and also all statements based on public opinions need to be cited in accorance with the Wikipedia:Citing sources guidelines. Hearsay and "first hand experience" from a single person (even though I belive you) isn't enough. Sorry.Jason McConnell-Leech 10:32, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you could some how get a documented copy of that petition you are talking about, that could probably count as a reliable source.Jason McConnell-Leech 10:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the picture you got of welding is actually a TAFE course I went to its not part of DT. RiseDarthVader 10:47, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah but it is still a Design and Technology class in it's own right. right?
And I think it will sound less confusing to readers of this article if we keep it as a design and technology class. Otherwise we're going to have to write another sub-section explaining about how some students go to tafe, and at the moment the rest of this article isn't detailed enough to put that in yet.Jason McConnell-Leech 10:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Breakfast Club[edit]

I'm not sure that this section is all necessary at this point; it isn't extreamly noteable.. and if we are going to include this information in this article it should be under a subsection entitled "Welfare" or something like that.Jason McConnell-Leech 11:04, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure why not and I will include other welfare info ok RiseDarthVader 11:26, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice one. Jason McConnell-Leech 11:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The logo we have in the infobox right now looks pretty crappy.. however, it was the only one of a decent size that I could find during creation of the article. If anyone can find a better quality (but still black and white) version of it please feel free to upload it, and replace the current one with it. Note: Make sure when adding a new logo to the infobox, that you size it 200pixels, not what the default is. Jason McConnell-Leech 23:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ive got the logo on my uniform but I havnt got a good digital camera to take a photo of it. RiseDarthVader 07:44, 7 June 2007 (UTC) Ill try to get pictures of my uniform up if possible.[reply]

Okay.. if you can get a good photograph of the logo off your uniform that would be reasonable. But I was thinking more along the lines of a clear, digital image, similar to the logo images on the Fort St and SSC pages.
I dont know how we would get something like that though, however, I've been considering writing an email to the school requesting some detailed information on the school's history, and I might also ask if they can send some images of the logo.
I guess in the mean-time, do what you can. Jason McConnell-Leech 12:01, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unrefrenced Tag[edit]

{{Unreferenced|date=June 2007}}

I propose the removal of this tag as this article no longer "Does not cite any refrences or sources". (Come to think of it, even when the tag was first instituted there were at least two or three citations)

Any objections? Jason McConnell-Leech 12:59, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That tag is indeed inaccurate, however some sections of the article still need citations so I have replaced it with a {{refimprove}} instead. Camaron1 | Chris 13:13, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Facilities[edit]

This is a really good idea. Although it may need a few minor touch-ups, this section will contribute well to the article. Thumbs up Jason McConnell-Leech 04:10, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Its just a rough edit for now until I have the time to re-edit it to include more detailed information. RiseDarthVader (talk)

History[edit]

Okay, I've written to the school requestion some documentation regarding the school's history, and they've kindly replied, saying that the will try to arrange to have some information sent. So get ready for a big write-up of a "History" section sometime soon. This will probably be the most prominent section of this article (as it is with most Wikipedia school articles) so hopefully we can get a lot of input! Jason McConnell-Leech 07:51, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thats good now I know more about my schools history. plus the school has had room naming changes in 2005 I believe. RiseDarthVader 11:22, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

A strong Start class article which I would consider close to a B class, also has Mid importance due to the film festival. To improve this article needs full references for all its sections and more in-depth information on the topics that the article covers such as "Curriculum". Notable Alumni[edit]

Notable Alumni

  • Alex Lloyd (singer-songwriter)
  • Karen Girling (- Librarian)
  • Jodi Cramond (- Teacher)

The only person there I have heard of is Alex Lloyd the rest I have never heard. I do not see any reason to put them there unless we have some information on them. RiseDarthVader 13:06, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
