Removed unsourced text/story from article:

An important person in Swift Current's history is Ira E. Argue. (Methodist Sunday School superintendent, and co-owner of Argue & Cooper's store, which became WW Cooper's, and then was bought out by Pioneer Co-op.) He was the Swift Current equivalent of Robin Hood. At a point where the town was out of coal, and the government refused to give or sell them any, Argue stole a train car filled with coal from the CPR, and sold the coal to the locals at a very low price. He prevented them from dying of cold.

This is an actual event that took place during the winter of 1906-1907. It can be found in Jim Greenblat's Those Were The Days. I'm not sure of the page. Also this was removed from the English article but not the French article. Kiara potter (talk) 19:11, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Origins[edit]

Famous Persons Abuse[edit]

First of all, I'm new here. I'm from Swift Current, so I hope I can be useful on this particular article. I could be wrong, but I don't think Tomas Shatner and the three below him are either famous or notable, and I think they should be removed. Wiki layout[edit]

The page was reading like an essay. Wikipedia standards insist that there be a brief one or two sentence long introduction to the content. This was missing completely from the page. There is also a lack of links within the history portion of this page. Swift Current, Saskatchewan → Swift Current — This article is title will be move to the name Swift Current, I check the disambiguation page on titled Swift Current (disambiguation) and I see the link to the city's article, but this title is to match the Canadian city related titles without the province name. For example Saskatoon, Yorkton, North Battleford, Moose Jaw and Estevan have titles already and this is one of the fewest and biggest cities in Saskatchewan. — Steam5 (talk) 03:10, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Swift currents of sea or fresh water don't merit their own separate article independently of the one on regular non-swift currents. And the other meanings listed on the disambiguation page are all secondary geopolitical features of this one which are named as they are because of their association with this topic, not separately notable things. Accordingly, this is the only use of the name that can actually have an article at this title — the rule per WP:DAB is that disambiguation or non-disambiguation is decided not on the basis of how many things happen to have a word or phrase in their name, but on the basis of how many articles could ever have the exact title "Swift Current" — and this is the only topic that ever could. "Paris" is the name of a Greek mythological figure, a Roman actor, about 30 real or fictional people, and at least 20 cities all over the world. Still, as one would expect, Paris is an article about the capital city of France (instead of a disambiguation page or a redirect to Paris, France). Why? Because it's a primary meaning for the term. The readers of the encyclopedia will (most of the time) expect to find the French city when searching for "paris". What will readers searching for the term "swift current" be looking for? A swift current? No, they'll be looking for the city in Saskatchewan (which I don't think anyone will object, since Swift Current already redirects here). Since it's the primary meaning, and since we're supposed to use the most common name for the article, it should be renamed Swift Current, without the modifier. Yes, there are many "swift currents" in the world, just as there are many Parises, many Torontos and many Canadas in the world. That doesn't stop one of them for being the primary usage of the term. Additions and renovations[edit]

Updated population but some edits still required[edit]

I updated the population in the text box on the right hand side, and revised the opening paragraph. (Source: Census Profile)

For some reason, when I input density, it doesn't show in the text box.

There's also a number given for "agglomeration," not sure what it refers to, and didn't update that number.

The demographics paragraph (simply a comparative box) has also been left for future updating.

Name change[edit]

Swift Current resident here. Fairly recently, the Iplex has been rebranded as the "InnovationPlex," supposedly to coincide with the rebranding of our local Innovation Credit Union to the Innovation Federal Credit Union. However, most residents still refer to the building as the Iplex. Should the name be changed throughout the article? Or left alone? 216.197.144.32 (talk) 03:18, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
