  • It is rumored that during World War II, a bomber attempting to crash land on the beach ended up in the lake. In the 1970s a SeaKing search-and-rescue helicopter crashed on to the beach and was lifted away by a much larger helicopter.
  • Historically it was also the home of a gang of youths known as the BT Men recognisable by their thick jumpers. This gang struck terror into the heart of the neighbourhood, and were responsible for many minor offences incl. The setting up of unoffical gallows, smoking dope, smoking pot purri, looking at porn behind the pumping station, getting conkers, getting pissed in bushes, pissing in bushes, flashing, trashing abandoned cars, playing armies, skitching, fishing, falling in the pool, throwing stones, skinning up in public toilets, smoking in publice toilets etc.
  • Residents ran in fear when they heard the strains of their theme tune:

- 'we are the BT men, we fix phones high and low, we are the BT men.......'

- Luckily for the residents unwillingly forced into house arrest by this vicious gang, each member has now grown up and become a respectable member of the community.

  • Swanpool is also home to a multitude of surf breaks. Firstly the low tide reeling right hand pointbreak breaking in front of the cafe, spinning in across the beach. At mid to high tide there is also a fun shore dump in bigger swells. Furthermore there is a multitude of peaks breaking across the beach.

- - A world famous secret spot also lies around the corner towards Gyllyngvase, known for its elevator drops, and ball crunching barrels. It has only ever been surfed once, in the 1960s by he who shall not be named, a local surfing legend. No one since has had the guts to challenge the colossus that is 'Gyllyngvase Reef'. - - The 'beginners slopes' of Swanpool has also been the training grounds of much talent, some of whom have progressed to surfing maenporth, and the dangerous North Shore of Cornwall. Most notably a young bodyboarder, and a young longboarder have travelled further afield to the heartland of Wales where they continue to impress the locals with their skills honed at Swanpool.

The point I was trying to make is per Wikipedia:Hatnote#Disambiguating_article_names_that_are_not_ambiguous, I don't see how you can end up at Swanpool, Cornwall without intentionally meaning the one in Cornwall. 128.232.241.211 (talk) 19:25, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
