Genre warring[edit]

Wow. That's actually kinda sad. From the looks of things, there has been an on-going genre war here for about a year, with a lot of it being more recent. So far, there has been no discussion on the talk page and very few edit summaries. Both of those things need to change.

From a brief look through the history, the following editors have been involved to one degree or another: 98.23.14.214, DannyMusicEditor, Statik N, 50.153.146.156, 50.153.146.195, 50.153.149.37, Mikeis1996, 73.114.17.85, 2601:19a:4000:b1f0:5dbf:1, fa7:210d:4cda, 2601:19a:4000:b1f0:189b:51d9:e31:d530, 64.251.48.211 blocked, Strangeguy91, 2601:19a:4000:b1f0:9cf2:3df9:b68c:b0e4, 73.47.64.90, 2601:19a:4000:b1f0:91b1:6bc8:f08a:c936.

Several of the IPs are obviously the same person. If any of the registered accounts have also used IPs, you might want to mention that now.

There currently is no in-line cite for a genre. The only one I see being cited at any point is Mikeis1996's[1], which Statik N removed twice (saying it is a blog). The source does call the song "post-grunge", but it self-identifies as a blog. The relevant guideline here is WP:SPS.

There are two walls of text discussing the issue, with no resolution, here and here. The relevant guideline here is WP:V.

Long story short: There is not an established consensus to label this song as grunge, post-grunge, Tuvan throat singing, Nu Viking zombie melodic death metal or anything else. As a result, we seem to be left with whatever the sources say. I haven't looked yet. It is possible that reliable sources have nothing to say on the issue or might say various things that might contradict each other. I'm open to suggestions.

Warnings for genre warring, blocks, edit protecting the article, ANI cases, etc. are all options that are on the table, as needed.

For the moment, I am removing the genre and replacing it with a hidden note requesting discussion. Let's see how it goes. - SummerPhDv2.0 01:21, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I've messed with this page in over a year...all I would've done was revert new or unexperienced editors or IPs. I say that a source which specifically genre-categorizes the song is unlikely to exist. If we have any genre at all, I think it's best to label it as the band's root genre (alternative rock), but it would most likely just cause more warring. The amount of warring here is surprisingly appalling. dannymusiceditor Speak up! 18:22, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
