Gaps[edit]

I think there should be more races after 1848. At least one modern source says he ran in 1850. Can't seem to find detailed season results for 1849 & 1850. Tigerboy1966 (talk) 02:26, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Here's one for 1849. Still looking for 1850. Froggerlaura (talk) 02:52, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • And 1850. Seems like he ran once and lost. Froggerlaura (talk) 03:01, 13 January 2012 (UTC) I don't think this can be 1850, as he's a four year old.[reply]

Thanks. Snippet views are so annoying! I found a Ruffs guide for 1850 when I was researching Cossack. The only result for Surplice was a match race in April in which he lost to St Rosalia.[1] Surplice looks like a horse who never really came back after taking a flogging in his two big wins. • Is Google doing the snippet view for the last one (must be UK setting)? The full-text is : "In 1850 Surplice ran but once viz in the First Spring Meeting at Newmarket in the following match: Duke of Bedford's bf St Rosalia 7 st 5 lb (Pettit) beat Lord Clifden's Surplice 8 st 10 lb (Pearl) TY C 300 50 ft Betting 6 to 4 on Surplice who was beaten easily by two lengths." This was his last start.Froggerlaura (talk) 18:59, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks again, I will add to article, as well as a slightly ghoulish fact I found on the "Grave Matters" section of TbH. Tigerboy1966 (talk) 02:23, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
