Wrong designer?[edit]

Wrong year for Atari 2600 VCS version?[edit]

There are some back-and-forth edits for the year the Atari VCS 2600 version was released, referencing what appears to be a error on the Atarimania page on the Atari VCS 2600 release of Super Breakout. While it’s clear the Super Breakgame game, visuals, and art are from 1978, the Atari VCS 2600 version appears to have been released later based on evidence below.

That source notes, apparently incorrectly, that the release year for the Atari VCS 2600 version as 1978, even though all of the images on the same page of cartridge boxes, instructions, and advertisements note 1981 or 1982. Most notably, the first ad listed there shows it as one of the “new cartridges for 1982”.

Looking into this further, the Atari Archive Atari VCS Game Release Dates site notes that it was released in October 1981 and a “Sears exclusive through the end of 1981”. It links to several Sears newspaper ads from October and November 1981, and then links to an Atari Age Magazine ad noting it was released by Atari in January of 1982 in Volume 1, Issue 4.

Those same sources, and a few others, are noted on the Atari Memories Atari 2600 Release Dates for 1982 site: “Super Breakout was a Sears Tele-Games exclusive and you can see that's true by looking at the Sears ads that were in newspapers starting in October of 1981. People who didn't shop at Sears couldn't buy Super Breakout until January of 1982.”

I propose this article be updated with these references to note it was released in October 1981 as a Sears Tele-Game exclusive, and later Atari VCS 2600 release in January 1982. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr. Zarniwoop (talk • contribs) 14:57, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
