Histmerge[edit]

@Anthony Appleyard: Thanks for performing the histmerge, but was it required to delete both preceding redirects? While I'm not claiming to have created the content of this article, and I acknowledge that yes, in most instances redirects are redundant, I do not think it was necessary to do—it appears that you could have just copied the entire history of SuperM - The 1st Mini Album to before the first edit here without really deleting anything (except maybe my creation of this redirect). I don't claim to know much about histmerges but that much appears obvious. I don't know how my creation of the other redirect got in the way of this one at all nor why you chose to delete it. I can't recall really any instances where you have deleted preceding redirects while performing histmerges before when I've requested them, so I don't know why you've done that here. I wouldn't have even noticed there was a cut-and-paste move if it hadn't have been on a redirect I created, so removing that altogether is odd to me. Ss112 20:12, 6 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Ss112: "it appears that you could have just copied the entire history of SuperM - The 1st Mini Album" :: copying (rather than moving) a length of edit history from one page's history to another page's history, is called "cloning", and it cannot be done in the English Wikipedia, but it can be done in the German Wikipedia. @Anthony Appleyard: I presumed you would know what I meant. I did not mean copy the history and then have it in two places. I meant move the history of SuperM - The 1st Mini Album to here and slot it in place of the redirect for SuperM (EP), before the Jal11497 editor copied the content of the former to here. As I said, I can see why deleting one redirect was necessary but not both. That's not what I thought you would do when I requested a history merge because you have not deleted most initial redirect creations in cases like this before—and I'm not just talking about pages I've created here. You've chosen selective edits to combine here and discarded others for an unknown reason. Can you please either restore some of the deleted revisions or explain why? I tried to do the right thing by requesting a history merge of an article someone expanded on a redirect I made, and it appears you've basically punished me for it.
