this controversy should be resolved, and I see no reason why the "sugar hill" disambiguation page shouldn't be the place to resolve it. "Sugar Hill" is the name of the record company that recorded the Sugar Hill Gang. I don't know who currently owns the "Sugar Hill" record label or has the rights to use the name (as the name of a music company) and at this point I really don't care, yet the term has been used in another (controversial) context. Recently I saw a performance at Mohegan Sun of a group that was attempting to pass itself off as the original "Sugar Hill Gang." The group was credited as the Sugar Hill Gang on posters and was ANNOUNCED as the Sugar Hill Gang. The group was comprised of three members and at least one of them (Wonder Mike) appeared to be a member of the original Sugar Hill crew. Yet the members of the group referred to themselves merely as SUGAR HILL. What I would like to know is, who were the other two members of the so-called "Sugar Hill" crew that I saw that night and what if any connection did they have to the original Sugar Hill Gang. Did this unit have the rights to use the term "Sugar Hill" as the name of a group? A few days later, Big Bank Hank died of cancer. So he almost certainly was not present that night. I know this is all just a footnote to the history of hip hop, yet I think that some answers should be given in an attempt to resolve the latest chapter of what has become an ongoing controversy. Hip hop fans have the right to know who is plundering (and perhaps misrepresenting the history of) the art form.
