Billet/officer - any Navy files 'round?[edit]

It seems to me this sentence:

> The officer in charge of SUBRON ONE is designated Commander Submarine Squadron One or COMSUBRON ONE.

is incorrect. The billet is called that, but is not the actual officer assigned to it referred to simply by the name of the squadron itself? Or is Tom Clancy wrong in all those "Task Force 77, arriving" calls he relays as that task force's commander boards a ship? :-) --Baylink (talk) 23:12, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the quote is correct. The officer who commands the squadron is Commander Submarine Squadron XX (COMSUBRON). Reports to and orders from the squadron are addressed to / received from COMSUBRON XX. The officer is also the personification of the squadron so he is refered to as SUBRON XX. When I served aboard USS Will Rogers (SSBN-659), the arrival and departure of my commanding officer was announced on the 1MC as "Will Rogers, arriving (departing)". Similarly when the Commadore came aboard the tender (or came aboard Will Rogers), the announcement was: "SUBRON 14, arriving".Trappist the monk (talk) 18:19, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
