Former Members Timeline[edit]

The timeline under the Former Members section is broken. (I don't know how to fix it) 142.162.80.226 (talk) 23:18, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio problem for biography[edit]

The whole biography seems to be largely a copyvio of sources on the internet. According to copyscape.com, the most likely candidate is here, with a visual comparison here. This section will have to be rewritten unless the original writer supplies his/her consent. I have replaced the offending text with a copyvio notice for now. Dewet 22:36, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Biography overhaul[edit]

The biography section really needs an overhaul. It's incomplete, and omits all the early history of the band. I would take a shot at it myself, but I'm afraid I don't know enough about the early years of the band. Isn't there any knowledgeable Stratovarius fan willing to take up the challenge? Wolfmoon 11:45, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

If you want it done, you should probably do it yourself. That's the Wikipedia way. What is Google for, after all? --Sn0wflake 18:19, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I took a shot at expanding the bio. There's more that can be done, but now at least the entire history of the band is touched upon. --213.65.178.186 09:51, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Albums[edit]

So there are the albums now. I have put general info (track list, infobox) but please add more info about the album itself (review, or anything significant marking that album)! That's it. Death2 23:45, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

what about that classical-styled album by tolkii, cant remember the name, is that stratovarius or a side project? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Worosei (talkcontribs) 12:59, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Christian influences?[edit]

Why do some people repeatedly add that Stratovarius are inspired by Christian themes, even that they are Christian metal (which they are not by any means!)? Some songs are openly against religions (the utopist "Fantasia" for example), and I can find no reference whatsoever to Christianity in their lyrics, certainly nothing explicit enough to conclude that they are inspired by Christian themes and not just spiritual themes. But please tell me if I'm mistaken. IronChris | (talk) 22:45, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've listened to this band for hundreds of hours total in my life, and can't think of a single song which is openly "christian". There's references to religions in songs like "false messiah" or "fantasia" (that you mentioned), though.IMHO they don't state any clear religious beliefs in their songs, remaining quite neutral on the topic.--HJV 22:02, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Timo Tolkki is openly anti-Christian —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.216.122.30 (talk) 03:46, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stratovarius is satanic! Officially —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.114.156.105 (talk) 18:30, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current Image[edit]

This is just my personal opinion, but I reckon the Stratovarius Firelily was awesome. What should be put as the current image? --Dayn 04:32, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note that basically all articles using the {{infobox musical artist}} template put an image of the band there, not the logo. As for the logo itself, it was repeated, once in the infobox, and another in the album section. There is no need for such repetition. The album image should be removed because it is used as a decoration, and the Firelily could be added, along with some critical description of it (in example, why it is the band' symbol, when it was created, by who, etc. -- ReyBrujo 05:10, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I just think the Firelily is pretty. --Dayn 06:59, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More Current Image Discussion[edit]

Relating to the above section. I think that http://www.stratovarius.com/bandimages/123.jpg or http://www.stratovarius.com/bandimages/35.jpg or http://www.stratovarius.com/bandimages/81.jpg would be better as a picture than the current one. Because you can clearly see all the members. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guitar kid94 (talkcontribs) 16:28, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Missing some citations[edit]

I added a couple citation needed tags for some info that in my opinion should have sources i also did some minor cleanup in order to make something a bit more readable ENSSB 22:06, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Progressive metal?[edit]

I'd say Strato is also progressive metal. I'm gonna stick that in there, and if someone doesn't like it we'll have a talk about it here. Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 18:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I don't hear it. What would you say classifies them as progressive? Offski (talk) 20:33, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Anybody? I'll delete it soon if there's still no response. Offski (talk) 10:42, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
At least songs Thin Ice, Full Moon, Dreamspace, Twilight Time and 030366 sound very much like the songs that some official prog metal band could'v been wroted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.112.21.2 (talk) 16:58, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
5 songs really doesn't cut it, especially because Full Moon wasn't even an album track. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.216.143.68 (talk) 00:53, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Impact section[edit]

"While Helloween, the band most often cited as the founders of the genre, contributed elements such as guitar solos and high pitched epic vocals to power metal, some believe it was Stratovarius who introduced the omnipresent double-bass speed drumming, unique time signatures, and an overall "epic" feeling."

I won't try to argue Helloween were the ones who introduced the double-bass drumming and the epic feeling to this subsection of hard rock/metal. However, I do not think it's makes sense to state that Stratovarious introduced these things that Helloween were doing years before, in the same sentence that Helloween are named as founding the genre. "Stratovarius are credited with reintroducing keyboards to metal as a routine instrument, not one merely used for backing sounds. They also reinvented its use as a solo instrument"

It's just not true, it was actually created by Yngwie Malmsteen. The COB quote which has no citation, even if that quote is true , that is not true what he says, again, what he credits for Stratovarius was created by Yngwie Malmsteen. And who cares if they had impact on COB?Actually they were the most influential euro metal band after Visions release, and that's the only thing that matters, that a question of editorial quality.I will write a totally new Impact section and i hope you all agree with me.By Perez. --- Malmsteen stopped doing the keyboard stuff after Johansson left the band though, if anything Jens deserves credit 99.54.88.194 (talk) 04:54, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Album "Hunting High And Low" 2006[edit]

Emusic have an album by this band which is not listed in the discography. http://www.emusic.com/album/Stratovarius-Hunting-High-and-Low-MP3-Download/10956709.html 82.10.108.49 (talk) 11:35, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dual line-ups[edit]

Timo Tolkki signed the rights for the name "Stratovarius" to Jens Johannson, Timo Kotipelto and Jörg Michael, whatever name Timo T, Antti, and Tuomo plan to take, it will not be named "Stratovarius" unless Jens, Timo K, and Jörg, decide to change the name, and also approve not only Timo T, Antti, and Tuomo use the name, but also release an album as the band "Stratovarius" that released the other 11 albums. http://www.stratovarius.com/WAVE%20OF%20RIGHTS.jpg For proof.

I changed the member history (My own creation I might add) to fit all of this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.216.126.35 (talk) 08:59, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: The "proof" that the previous user mentions is JUST a *jpeg file on the internet and nothing more. So we should not take it seriously. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.64.218.180 (talk) 11:56, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also: Stratovarius was at one time, a band consisting of Tuomo Lassila, John Viherva, and Staffan Strahlman. Black Water was a previous band that some/all of these members were a part of, but Viherva and Strahlman did NOT leave at the time of Black Water.

This was confirmed by multiple forum posts from both Timo Tolkki and John Viherva about the band's early history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.54.88.194 (talk) 01:27, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Should be noted that the source of the *jpeg file was actually the stratovarius website. The waive of rights has been confirmed by Tolkki. Kotipelto and co have sole rights to the Stratovarius name. Floydiac (talk) 16:26, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Publicity Stunt[edit]

http://www.ontrackmagazine.com/2008/10interviews/revolutionrenaissance.html

We need to change the section 2003-2004. In this recent Interview Tolkki said that everything that happened from late 2003 to the release of "Stratovarius" in 2005 exept Tolkkis nervous breakedown was a publicity stunt. And everybody knew about it. Tolki, Koti, Jörg, Jens, Jari, the management and the record company. Around the time Timo was in hospital and Jörg and Koti were "kicked" and replaced, Jörg was recording the drums in the studio. I think we need to change the section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.48.9.114 (talk) 13:56, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Band's Name[edit]

Stratovarius (a portmanteau of Stratocaster and Stradivarius), an idea of Stråhlman's

German band Kraftwerk released a song named Stratovarius back in 1970, so I suppose it is not an idea of Strahlman's. 89.176.252.156 (talk) 20:57, 11 July 2009 (UTC) As per multiple band reports, the idea was Strahlmans, someone else may have thought of it first, but that may have had no bearing on Strahlman. It certainly wasn't a noteworthy song —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.54.88.194 (talk) 16:35, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure that your ignorance in music matter is noteworthy... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.79.80.249 (talk) 15:02, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have never heard in any interview or anywhere else that the band's name was influenced by the Kraftwerk song. When you think of it, the idea is pretty obvious, and I think it's more likely that they just invented the name again, independent of Kraftwerk. The music at least bears no resemblance to Kraftwerk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.231.115.184 (talk) 11:28, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Release date for TBA album[edit]

Please note that the date posted on Metal Storm is not the date the new album will be released. The band has said early 2011 for release but have not offered any date. Remember that Metal Storm will say December 2010/2011/2012 when they know what year the album is expected to be released.

It is also questionable whether another user edited website is actually a good source. Floydiac (talk) 16:13, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The information on the release date is straight from the band itself, on the band's forum 99.54.88.194 (talk) 20:37, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is now, yes. At the time of writing the release date on wikipedia was Dec 2011, and the source cited was Metal Storm, who named that date purely as a placeholder. This was edited by myself to change the release date to the time stated by the band.Floydiac (talk) 21:49, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

TK said in an interview he expected the album out in February or March 2011 35.11.175.24 (talk) 17:58, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Troll[edit]

I undid a few changes a troll made. Must say it's very frightening to have a look at how many clicks it takes to undo a change after a troll spends a lot of time editing it, and then see that the page where I wanted to check that (favorite band) is actually trolled... 217.121.176.170 (talk) 17:40, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
