Steppe wisentSteppe bison

"Wisent" seems to be Dutch, not English. The one paper cited that uses the name "wisent" is written by Dutch authors: other papers cited in footnotes use "bison" or "steppe bison". The German name is similar, "Steppenbison". I suggest we move this to "Steppe bison", since the sources support that name. Andrew Dalby 12:54, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also considering wisent redirects to European bison, which lists "wisent" as an alternate name, I support the move. Upjav (talk) 21:12, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Leptobison hanaizumiensis[edit]

Just wondering if Leptobison hanaizumiensis is actually the same as Bison Priscus. If not, perhaps the reference to it in the Specimens section should be merged with the first paragraph of the Evolution section. It would be a contemporary of the Steppe Bison, not identical with it. Brutchersp (talk)

Hey Brutchersp,
You are quite correct, Leptobison is not the same species as Bison priscus. I have thus moved the reference to the section of the article covering contemporaneous species. Feel free to edit at your discretion, especially due to the fact these articles do not receive much attention!

Late survival in Yukon[edit]

A recent (2017) published claim of steppe bison remains found in Yukon and dated only 5,400 YBP, identified through anciet DNA: https://www.nrcresearchpress.com/doi/10.1139/cjes-2017-0100#.XSCRCI9S_IU --Menah the Great (talk) 12:18, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
