Interesting article, I would love reviewing this! My first comments:

Thank you for taking this on - I have only just noticed that the review had been started. I will work through the points you raise. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:42, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lead  Done[edit]

  • 'Oceans' seems too common a term to link, though it has importance in an article about an aquatic organism. Done
  • '... and five arms though some species ...' - '... and five arms, though some species ...' Done
  • '... shades of red or orange but others are blue, grey ...' - '... shades of red or orange while others are blue, grey ...' Done
  • ' (>6000 metres)' convert metre to ft. Done

Suggestions:

  • It should probably be noted in the beginning of the article that a more appropriate term is "Sea star," as they are an Echinoderm, and many biologists are trying to phase-out the antiquated "Starfish." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.180.249.182 (talk) 00:13, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • After lead, you could perhaps make a section 'Taxonomy', where you describe who named the class and when. 'Diversity' can be transferred to this section, as it seems to break the flow, coming between 'Distribution' and 'Threats'.
  • 'Research' is a very small section, could be merged in 'Appearance', with if possible more info, under the name 'Chemical properties' or such.
I'll think about these suggestions. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:39, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, take your time. Of course these are not mandatory. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 12:28, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Appearance  Done[edit]

  • Link calcium carbonate, homology, Porcellanasteridae Done. The last is a red link but I will make a stub article.
  • 'light-colored' - Should use British English, colour. All mayn't understand American English. Look for other instances. Done some examples but their may be one or two I have missed.

Internal anatomy  Done[edit]

  • Link gonads, cornea, iris, ampulla Done
  • You may increase the literature in 'Body wall' with the help of this article:
Title:Structure and mechanics of starfish body wall
Author:P. O'Neill
Pubmed citation:2614339 Done
  • You have defined papulae in the subsection 'Body wall', and then repeat it in 'Respiration and excretion'. Done
  • Measurements in 'Locomotion' should use convert templates. Done
  • You write 'esophagus' (AE) in 'Digestive system', and 'oesophagus' (BE) in 'Nervous system'. Done
  • Three images all at once under 'Locomotion' seem to be squashing the text. One removed Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:39, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Life cycle  Done[edit]

  • '... Asterina gibbosa, being an example of these.' No need of comma. Done
  • Link spawning (spawn), fertilization, brooding Done
  • 'Starfish may use environmental signals to coordinate the time of spawning (day length to indicate the correct time of the year, dawn or dusk to indicate the correct time of day), and chemical signals to indicate their readiness to each other' I understand, but is there any particular time of spawning in the year or it varies from species to species? Extra sentence added.
  • Use Convert template in 'Lifespan' Done

Distribution  Done[edit]

  • '...larvae are planktonic which allows...' - comma before 'which' Done
  • '...and sand, to kelp forests...' - no need of comma after 'sand' Done Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:05, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

References  Done[edit]

  • Ref 10 appeared as dead link in my browser, check it. Done
  • Ref 12 is also dead. Done
  • Ref 13 is somewhat improperly written. Done
  • Ref 15 needs more details. Done
  • The author (or writer) of Ref 17 is April Holladay. Done
  • Italics needed in Ref 19 Done
  • The style of writing author names in Ref 30, 31 differs from others Done
  • No need of date as in Ref 39, 41, 42 Done
  • details needed in Ref 52 Done
  • author in Ref 68 is Christopher Mah Done

Most issues in References, else this a well-written and comprehensive article. No worries in 'Diet' and 'Threats'. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 08:47, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have done all the things mentioned above with the exception of your suggestions about rearranging sections which I will look at next. I had not given enough attention to the references. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:29, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great, you have resolved all issues! I can promote this as GA, but the suggestions remain. Well, I just found a few articles which show a starfish species as a threat. May be good to mention in the article. Take a look:
  • Title: A threat to coral reefs multiplied? Four species of crown-of-thorns starfish
  • Authors: Catherine Vogler, John Benzie, Harilaos Lessios, Paul Barber and Gert Wörheide
  • Journal: Biology Letters (Vol. 4, No. 6) Pages:696-699 Year:2008
  • DOI: 10.1098/rsbl.2008.0454
  • Title: The threat of the ‘crown-of-thorns’ starfish (Acanthaster planci) to coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific area: Observations on a normal population in the Red Sea
  • Authors: Andrew C. Campbell and Rupert F.G. Ormond
  • Journal: Biological Conservation (Vol. 2, No. 4) Pages:246-251 Year:1970
  • DOI: 10.1016/0006-3207(70)90004-2
  • Title: Is the crown-of-thorns starfish a threat to the reefs of Lord Howe Island?
  • Author: Vicki J. Harriott
  • Journal: Aquatic Conservation (Vol. 5, No. 3) Pages:179-190 Year:1995
  • DOI: 10.1002/aqc.3270050303
I hope these come in use. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 12:28, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have added a Taxonomy section and done some rearrangement of sections. Will consider "Threats" tomorrow. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:29, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have added a little more about the crown-of-thorns starfish in the Diet section but it is not really relevant to the Threats section. I have expanded the latter a little with information on the consequences of an oil spill. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:23, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just one more issue. About this "Gallery" section at the last, I think it is not required. Bivalvia, another article of a class, also does not use it. And even if it is needed, it should be placed after "Threats" (the last section of the actual text).
I did not add the gallery to the article and have removed it. Someone else may object I suppose. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:49, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also I thought if the image for locomotion could be aligned to right, as per MOS:IMAGELOCATION. Need not apply to all such images, just this one would do. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 05:21, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
