Canonicity[edit]

I'm struggling to find a reliable source that actually says that the radio dramas are no longer canon. This Lucasfilm announcement from 2014 is clear that former Expanded Universe works dealing with narrative post-Return of the Jedi are no longer considered canon, but it's not so clear about stories set earlier in the saga timeline. It also makes no mention of the radio dramas at all. Can anyone shed more light on this? Cnbrb (talk) 13:13, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think it'd be impossible for Lucasfilm/Disney to articulate in general terms all the media and projects that are not canon; instead, look instead to the affirmative list that has been embraced by the Empire. Absent an explicit inclusion of the radio dramas, it's safe to conclude they're not part of the fold. --EEMIV (talk) 00:35, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, personally I would agree with that. It's just that in terms of Wikipedia, there would have to be a more concrete statement either way. Drawing an inference from Lucasfilm's press release strays into synthesis, so I was hoping to find a better reliable source. Canonicity is an interesting question, especially with any potential overlaps with the upcoming Rogue One story, and it would be nice to improve the article with something clearer. And interestingly, this author interprets the Lucasfilm announcement differently, stating that "the 'Expanded Universe' of Star Wars outside of the films, radio and television series, is noncanonical..." Title[edit]

I don't know what the "re-issued on NPR several years later" verbiage refers to, but no matter -- the title of the ORIGINAL broadcast in 1981 was "The New Hope". I own cassette recordings that I taped myself in 1981, and they clearly say "The New Hope" before and after every episode. Kingpin (talk) 17:09, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
