Voluntary control?[edit]

Are humans supposed to have voluntary control of the stapedius?
I have been able to shut out loud sounds (fire engines, etc.) at will since I was a boy.
Later, in a bioengineering course 30 years ago, I learned that this was the stapedius that I was controlling, during our class experiment on its associated reflex. No one else in class had voluntary control of the muscle.

It's a skeletal muscle. So it should be possible.--Michael (talk) 13:17, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
