Does the clock still show true Italian hours, with the time constantly being adjusted for the change in the time of sunset, or has the time of sunset now been fixed at 6pm, which would give a more orthodox situation with midnight and noon and the bottom and top of the dial (at VI and XVIII)? The clock shows equal hours and I think it always did. In fact Venice probably had used equal hours long before the tower was built, though some rural parts of Northern Italy continued to use unequal hours into the 19th century.
