History of St. Gregory's Abbey[edit]

This referrence in Wikipedia is incorrect. First, there is no mention of why these Benedicitnes were chosen. They were essentially forced to leave France due to persecution. Second, Konowa? They came to Shawnee directly from their first U.S. home in Kansas. I forget the city. There is also an interesting story behind the teaching of the Pottowatami Indians. They gave the land (about 2,500 acres) to the Benedictines.

I do not know who worte the orignal article but it is very incomplete and incorrect in many areas. For a complete and factual histry of the Oklahoma Monks read the book by Father Joseph Murphy O.S.B.
