Should George Washington be considered a Spymaster?[edit]

Can George Washington really be called a Spy Master when most of his espionage experience was while he was leading the continental army. Furthermore, Benjamin Tallmadge is already listed. This is equivalent of saying the President of the US is the Spymaster because he controls the CIA, NSA, while true, spy-craft isn't his bread and butter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Morris of Orange (talkcontribs) 03:28, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd imagine he's listed for his role in organizing a number of Continental spy network during the Revolutionary War, and not in his later role as President of the US (he isn't the only head of government listed either, Zhou Enlai was later the first Premier of the PRC). Tallmadge led the Culper Ring's operations (and in this sense, some consider him a spymaster in his own right), but Washington (as a general) was the one that was giving them the directives (mostly spreading misinformation on Continental forces). That said, Tallmadge's ring is only one ring in a larger espionage network that was organized by Washington (along with personally handling several spies like Hercules Mulligan). Plus this is also sorta discounting his work with improving the Continental Army's military intelligence practices. Leventio (talk) 07:35, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. What ever he was doing, he was also in control of a network of spies. SmokeyJoe (talk) 07:55, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Collins (Irish leader)[edit]

I cannot verify that Michael Collins (Irish leader) was a spymaster. He appointed a spymaster, Liam Tobin. See edit SmokeyJoe (talk) 07:58, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should this article be renamed to List of spymasters?[edit]
