Springfield Mall[edit]

Removed comment about teenagers having few other places to congregate than Springfield Mall. It is not NPOV as well as being comically untrue.—BozoTheScary 2005 sometime

In recent years, however, the establishment has fallen into severe disrepair and has experienced rashes of gang violence and robbery. Is this true? I haven't been to Springfield Mall myself for over a year, but "severe disrepair" seems like hyperbole. Can anyone attest to this? Danspalding 00:10, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there were two incidents of gang violence in the latter half of 2005. [1] That's not a rash to me, nor does "severe disrepair" seem accurate. I'll amend and see if it gets reverted.—BozoTheScary 05:23, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

although the mall could certainly be in better shape, there was more "gang" activity there a decade ago than now. the difficulty is these statements are opinions. if things like police reports ,violation of building codes, or even a newspaper article is cited, that's something different.Nedtuttle 00:50, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the material about disrepair, the "growing criminal element," and how it is "just another place to purchase gas." It all reads as extremely POV. If there is a source for the mentioned study, perhaps some of the material could be added back. --skew-t 01:26, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The greater springfield improvement project would certainly give some verifiable data about the deterioration of springfield mall. That and the deterioration of greater springfield. I left my hometown just 3 months ago and I've gotta say -- springfield is a dump and not getting better.

Springfield Mall is not in much worse shape than it was 15 years ago when I worked there. The roof still leaks, the kids still hang out front and smoke, and the mall security is all but missing. Nedtuttle is correct, though, in that there was much more gang violence a decade ago at Springfield than there is today. Now Tysons Corner Center, on the other hand, has a 14-member anto-gang task force assigned to it, and Sterling seems incapable of rooting the gangs out. On the upside, Macerich (also owns Tysons Corner Center) just assumed management of the Springfield Mall property in December 2007, and seems poised to do what Vornado could not - get the remodel done already. --BizMgr (talk) 06:04, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1.) Vornado owns the Springfield Mall, not Macerich.

Removed the "Typical Springfield Home" picture[edit]

I removed it because it is not a typical home of Springfield, which was mainly built up in the late 50s-70s.
