Use around the world - far from complete[edit]

The § Use around the world section gives an adequate introduction to the use of spit hoods in Australia, but a bare nod to that in the UK and New Zealand. There is no information on their use in other jurisdictions, including the Americas, Asia, Europe or Africa. Considering the concern shown for suffocation risk in the cited article from the New York Times, one might expect there to plenty of info about the US experience.

Please expand this section with current info if you can! yoyo (talk) 08:35, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

The article lacks any info on the history of invention, design criteria or manufacture of these restraints. Surely this lack could be remedied fairly easily by an editor with personal knowledge of the background? yoyo (talk) 08:39, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been on my list to clean up for years now, but it’s always been such a low priority. I doubt you’re going to find anyone with more personal knowledge floating around these parts, so you may as well have a whack at it if you have the time.
Some more depth can be found here: What Are ‘Spit Hoods,’ and Why Do the Police Use Them?, with its comfortingly intuitive title. It covers a lot of basic points that we should also include. I would recommend changing § Justification for use to “Design and use” and expanding detail there. — HTGS (talk) 09:14, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
