Species identification[edit]

Can anyone identify which species this is? Spiny Lizard - Houston Zoo

Sign at the Houston Zoo just says "Spiny Lizard (Sceloporus sp.) Cburnett 06:29, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Sceloporus jarrovii to me. Lyttle-Wight (talk) 22:38, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Phylogeny moved pending replacement.[edit]

I've removed the phylogeny section to the talk page (below) because it is pertains to only a few species (most formerly S. undulatus) and is not representative of the genus as a whole and its relation to other Phrynosomatids. More complete taxonomic discussion can be found in something like Wiens and Reeder 1997 or Wiens, John J. (2010). "Phylogenetic relationships of phrynosomatid lizards based on nuclear and mitochondrial data, and a revised phylogeny for Sceloporus" (PDF). Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution. 54 (1): 150–161. {{cite journal}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help), which give more comprehensive coverage.--Animalparty-- (talk) 19:46, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Phylogeny[edit]

The following cladogram is based on Leaché and Reeder, 2002, and shows the relationship of a handful of species of the genus Sceloporus:[1]
