Scumsoft[edit]

To tell you the truth, I grew up thinking that the ficticious company "Scumsoft" was a play on the adventure game system of Sierra's business rival Lucasarts' adventure game engine, SCUMM. I never thought of Microsoft and Sunsoft at all. Why didn't Sierra like either company? --71.68.250.218 03:30, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see them having anything against Microsoft in 1989. SunSoft might have been a competitor, but outside of Japan they only made console games. They apparently assited in the development of the Nintendo Wii. All of this might be a coincidence. "ScumSoft" is a logical enough name for a fictional evil software company in a humorous game. I have played an ungodly amount of Space Quest in my time, and was quite active in the community in the late 90s, but I have never heard the notion that ScumSoft was a parody of Sunsoft (indeed I did not know of them before I visited this page) I always believed it to be a combination of a parody of Microsoft and a friendly stab at Sierra itself (and especially Ken Williams in the form of the guys with whips patrolling the cubicles), but I think that unless we can find references that specify that to be the case (or clear evidence in ingame text) it should be removed altogether as speculation, and I have gone ahead and done so. The title[edit]

The title of the game is an obvious pun on The Pirates of Penzance.[citation needed]

With reference to the above line in the article, I would think that it would be a very difficult thing to prove this is indeed a pun. Other than comments made by either of the designers, I don't think it could be proven. That said, it is rather an obvious pun. Klytos 15:24, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Sq3junkyard.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. What's the problem with "Chicken Reel"?[edit]

Go to the Chicken Reel page, scroll down to the bottom, follow the link to Amazon.com and listen. It's the same melody as in "Astro Chicken". It's a popular song, so why the "CN" tag? -- megA 23:26, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Astro Chicken?[edit]

Sound Blaster & digitized samples[edit]

I reworked the paragraph on the use of digitized audio samples, notably eliminating the claim that "the game did not utilize the Sound Blaster's digital capabilities". In fact, it does, but the driver file originally packaged with the game, SNDBLAST.DRV, doesn't enable the effects. Replacing the driver file with another version (SNDBLAST.DRV used by the 1990 remake of King's Quest I, for example) corrects the issue, and the effects can be heard on a PC via the Sound Blaster. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Omny.c (talkcontribs) 04:56, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Death scene[edit]

I believe the Computer Gaming World description is incorrect - the body parts don't move down the conveyor belt. Instead, if Roger remains on the conveyor belt, he gets dumped into a shredder (the process gets a "censored" bar).
