Members leaving the SLC

Five members have announced that they are leaving the SLC today. They are still members in good standing in the SLC until they leave. UCA joins the ASun in July 2021. SFASU, SHSU, Lamar, and ACU join the WAC in July, 2022. Please leave them as members of the SLC until then. JeffConn (talk) 05:53, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Is US News and World Report the best source for endowment amounts?

The Wikipedia page "List of colleges and universities in the United States by Endowment" uses the NACUBO survey as its source. Link to cited Wikipedia page: [1] The survey is published annually. One of the problems with the USNWR endowment amount deals with failure to account for multiple endowments. USNWR does not always pick up all the pieces. For example, the University of South Alabama has two endowments. One is for the "University of South Alabama Foundation" ($298,536,000). The other is under the name of "University of South Alabama" ($160,000,000). USNWR is reporting $141,264,000. Another example is with Lamar University. Like the University of South Alabama, Lamar has two endowments, "Lamar University Foundation" ($59,666,000) and "Lamar University" ($31,300,000). USNWR is reporting $24,031,495; close to value for the "Lamar University" endowment.

If the information is available, I propose that a better reference would be the actual source rather than referencing data from another another group...too much room for error. USNWR Article about Endowments: [2] USNWR also may use out of date information due to timing. For example, the magazine is citing a 2012 value while 2013 information is available. Oral Roberts rejoins Summit League

It was just announced that Oral Roberts will rejoin the Summit League as of 2014-2015 school year. [4] [5] JB318 (talk) 02:02, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Maps in Infobox section need to be updated to reflect ORU's departure. In top map, Oklahoma is no longer an SLC state. ORU is still in the second map listing the universities by their geographical location. There is a substitute for the top map, but I don't know how to make the replacement without messing up the page. The second map may need to be updated since several other universities joined the SLC around the same time ORU did. LUSportsFan (talk) 22:36, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Texas State

Untitled

I think the year that UTSA joined is wrong, because if the school was founded in 1969, how could they have joined in 1963? I had trouble finding the correct year however. Maybe someone could edit it who knows the right date.

Plagiarism

Almost all of this page was yanked verbatim from Southland Conference History on the league's official site. The opening's also pretty long, so if someone's got time to just re-write it, that'll kill two birds with one stone. JFMorse 10:49, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Way too football-heavy

I was coming to say the same thing. Karl Malone also played in the SLC and baseball has been sending lots of players into the minors and some are major prospects. John Lackey won a World Series game for the Angels and Hunter Pence is an All-Star for Houston, to name two. I'll see about updating member history this weekend. Timeline Problem

Vandalism Watch: incorrect addition of Baylor University

incorrect addition of Baylor University to list of members of Southland Conference by people (perhaps A&M students) angry at Baylor's legal efforts to keep Texas A&M from leaving the Big 12 conference for the SEC.Josiah Stevenson 22:23, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

East and West Divisions

The conference has east and west divisions--can we get the schools labeled as either east or west? Though I can't find an official list on the conference web site either. JB318 (talk) 21:29, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Proposal to make timelines more consistent

I noticed that conferences in List of NCAA conferences have articles, usually including a membership timeline. While some of the decisions made for each conference make some sense, there is a wide variety of styles for the various timelines, particularly involving color choices, but also other matters of style that could be more consistent.

for example, a school with a yellow bar means:

• An associate member in one sport (if part of the BE)
• A former member of the conference (in the SEC)
• A future member of the conference (in the SEC and Big West)
• A football only member (in the Sun Belt)
• A team that has moved to another conference (in the WAC, NEC)
• A full member of the Big Sky

Some graphs have captions, some do not, and none are centered. To see the variety of styles, review Current conference timelines

I think it would be worth discussing how best to provide some measure of consistency, recognizing that there may be legitimate reasons for some differences from a standard presentation (for example, some conferences show the name of the new conference for former members. In some cases, this makes sense, in other, it may not.)

I've produced a draft of how the timelines would look with some consistency added. Please see Draft proposal of conference timelines.

I propose a discussion to see if there is consensus on improving the consistency.

Because it would not be practical to have this discussion on each and every conference talk page, I suggest centralizing this discussion at the Talk page of Project College football SPhilbrick(Talk) 02:24, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
