Proposed deletion[edit]

I've removed the proposed deletion placed by Bradv on the grounds that:

Nomination on part of nominator in WP:AGF - IMHO shows a very limited understanding of what WP:ABOUT and WP:NOT and a few other basic principles of what actually constitutes valid lists in the larger scheme of the newspaper project in western australia and australia JarrahTree 00:31, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just to add my two cents to justify this page. Regarding the decision to break the complete list of Western Australian newspaper titles down into regional lists, in an attempt to avoid the other regional lists being marked for deletion by Bradv or anyone else following along. The complete list of WA newspaper titles are in regional lists for a number of reasons:
  • To avoid complicating and bloating the existing List of newspapers in Western Australia because there are over 1000 titles, and given the additional details they were including for the major titles, it would have been unfeasible to follow that model for all the smaller titles
    • Additionally the editors who worked on that list did not want to see it become a list of all the titles, just the significant ones
  • I did seek input from the community of editors who work on WA Wikipedia pages and with assistance from those who contributed we decided to break the list down into regions, partially based on the work done by JarrahTree on Pilbara newspapers and just because the whole list on one page would be very unwieldy.
  • Finally there isn't a comprehensive list of WA newspaper titles anywhere else either online or in a physical resource, I think it would be a shame for this information to be lost to Western Australians and anyone else with an interest in WA's or Australia's media history. RenegadeStormie (talk) 00:49, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You are far too polite Renegade Stormie - there is no need to have to rationalise the overall stand alone articles like this with adequate referencing, which are not, in any way deletable JarrahTree 00:52, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
"To avoid complicating and bloating the existing List of newspapers in Western Australia ... the editors who worked on that list did not want to see it become a list of all the titles, just the significant ones"
If List of newspapers in Western Australia is intended to be "just the significant ones", we should probably rename that article accordingly, and update its lead sentence. Mitch Ames (talk) 02:20, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Mitch, Mitch to prevent this from becoming a very long talk page - please go look at the List of newspapers in New South Wales - rather than picking apart Renegades comment - look at what motivated the desire to have a readable set of regional based lists rather than the criminal item of the totally unreadable and unworkable news south wales item. For sanity and new year good will - please do not pursue the 'significance' issue in nitpicking style for this or WA lists, just ponder what the list could have become if it went the NSW way JarrahTree 02:30, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Couldn't agree more with Renegade or JarrahTree....Hughesdarren (talk) 02:36, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Knowing full well advice does not stop mitch on his many missions for truth justice and that leave mind boggling talk pages - the term used by renegade relates to the specific newspaper titles that are sufficiently notable/significant to have an article about - not a full list that implies and would include variant titles (the bagodda times known as the bogada times between 1922 and 1926 because the compositor got drunk one new year and it took time to find the numbers on the dusty floor of the print room) as part of the list - there is no need to change the lead or anything - as the main articles are in correct terms notable for an article and will have the variant titles and print runs under other names actually included in the text of the articles, there is no need to get hung up on the use of the word 'significant' JarrahTree 02:42, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Great Southern?[edit]

There is no list of Great Southern newspapers, so I added the Mount Barker and Denmark Record here. But where's the Albany Advertiser listed? I guess just in List of newspapers in Western Australia because it's a biggish one? Anyway, should the Great Southern list exist? Sam Wilson 23:24, 1 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

...should the Great Southern list exist? — Almost certainly yes - we have articles for every other region, so I can't see why we wouldn't have one for Great Southern. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:56, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A close look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/State_Library_of_Western_Australia/Ongoing_Work shows that it needs to be done, and the precedent of already completed regions should be a good indicator JarrahTree 12:03, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
