I just wanted to express my disappointment at seeing a link to an essay I wrote about this book being removed by Pumpkin888 a few years ago. (See edit here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Soul_Mountain&diff=prev&oldid=412167681 ) (I don't think I added it myself though it's possible -- but the version history doesn't show any record of it). I wrote a well-researched and extensive essay, and it's been publicly on the web since 2003. See http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.imaginaryplanet.net/essays/literary/soulmountain.php My name is clearly indicated and it isn't behind a paywall. In contrast, all the secondary material cited in the April 2016 version of the entry are behind paywalls; the only one which isn't behind a paywall is currently offline! (Indeed, my own essay gave several quotes by these same sources). I'll be the first to admit that my essay isn't the definitive word about the subject -- surely other articles have been written and published since that time -- but my essay is an interesting and thorough (and unconventional) essay which cites other sources generously. It is a pity that more publicly available essays are not available for this literary work; I don't understand why a Wikipedia editor would remove my essay and think it's a better state for the entry to contain no references to essays which are paywall-free. Obviously, it is not my place to re-add this essay (if anything Wiki guidelines don't allow it). But I just wanted to point out how a "dumbing down" of secondary sources in favor of "commercial sources" has the unfortunate result of making this page less useful and less insightful. If anyone can find better secondary material about this book and which are not behind paywalls, please mention them here. (The footnotes to my book review essay -- listed on the right sidebar of my essay --- contains several non-paywalled secondary sources also not listed on this page.
