Venus or not?[edit]

Refrences to Spodu on other Wikipages keep saying it was name for Venus. But on it's own page here I see no references to Venus?--JaredMithrandir (talk) 18:42, 30 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

JaredMithrandir: I would guess that's inaccurate. I can't find a reference in my sources that ties Sopdu to Venus, although I think his mother Sopdet can sometimes be Venus. See Eye of Ra#Solar for a little of the background on that subject. A. Parrot (talk) 02:02, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm starting to wonder how plausible an association with Aquilla might be given his tendency to be depicted as a Falcon?--JaredMithrandir (talk) 10:08, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
JaredMithrandir: It's unlikely. Aside from Orion (Sah), the Egyptians didn't draw the same constellations in the sky as the Greeks did. Many of the constellations they drew haven't been definitively matched with the stars. There's even a lion constellation in a sphinx position that's widely assumed to be Leo but (if what I read somewhere or other is correct) the two don't actually match. Making sense of ancient Egyptian astronomy is difficult. A. Parrot (talk) 01:28, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, I remember now that I had heard the Dendre Zodiad had a bird headed person where Ophichus usually is, but I was never able to verify that either. Even Sah isn't entirely the same as Orion since Sah isn't a hunter.--JaredMithrandir (talk) 16:29, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
