talk page of SOS protein (merged with son of sevenless)[edit]

WRONG WRONG WRONG: RasGAP inhibits Ras activity... not increase it by a thousand fold!!!!! Someone with authority change this(End of Paragraph 1)

Actually, it's largely correct: RasGAP is a GTPase Activating Protein, which, by inserting an arginine finger into the active site of Ras, dramatically enhances its ATPase (catalytic) activity; where you are partly correct, of course, is that this then de-tunes the protein as it adopts the GDP-bound form; a GEF or GRP will be needed to 'pry open' the active site to exchange the nucleotide. With regard to merging SOS1 and SOS protein, articles refer to the same gene and protein product. It should be noted in the new article that mammals possess two sos paralogues, SOS1 and SOS2. The new article be titled 'Son of Sevenless (SOS)' and the appropriate re-directs from other articles needs to be tended to.

The contents of this page are completely redundant with the 'SOS1' article and I suggest that this page should be deleted.

Is there a way to delete the article 'SOS Protein' instead of merging this article with it? The non-controversial content of the former article is contained within this article. It is currently unclear what role Grb2 plays in the activation of SOS1 since deletion of the Grb2 binding sites results in an activated form of the protein. A section on Grb2 and Abi1/Eps8 binding should be included eventually. Adapter 22:27, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
