Merge[edit]

Surely this should be merged with socially constructed reality 1Z 20:25, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article delete?[edit]

This article and it's contents seem to be all contained already in the article Social constructionism. Therefore it should be either deleted or merged (if there is anything to merge).88.114.154.216 (talk) 19:18, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(Nick) - social reality and social constructionism, and socially constructed reality are all different things. Social reality describes reality that is, er, in some sense social - whether that means it is about society, the way people interact, or something else, is what the article should list (it does do this somewhat, and is different from the social constructionism article).

socially constructed reality is reality that comes about through social processes of assigning meaning. No doubt many would see socially reality as socially constructed - and perhaps for good reason - but that is not tautologically true. No doubt there are other theories about social reality.

social constructionism is a theory/field of social science which sees most things as socially constructed. I can imagine they might not agree with the concept of social reality, on the grounds that all reality is socially constructed - but that's just a guess.

Clearly though the 3 articles are related and links between them would be useful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.215.184.111 (talk) 16:19, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Social World" Should Not Redirect Here[edit]

I was redirected here after searching for "social world," for a brief review of the term before a lecture. This should not be happening. Social world, a term that mostly is associated with symbolic interactionism, has a very specific meaning in that tradition, which is much, much more narrow than the whole of social reality. It mostly is associated with the work of Tomatsu Shibutani and Anselm Strauss. No mention of their work, or anything related to it, appears on this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.22.24.91 (talk) 11:01, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
