HERBERT SPENCER Spencer pretty much invented the concept of the social organism, and as his work predates that of Durkheim, it doesn't seem right to state 'The conception of an "organismic society" was elaborated further by Herbert Spencer in his essay on "The Social Organism".'Kissoff 03:42, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moreover Spencer wrote 'The Social Organism' in 1860 at a time when Durkheim was only aged of 2.
And in the 'Division du Travail Social', his PhD thesis in 1893, Durkheim quotes the 'Social Organisms' defined by fr:Edmond Perrier, a French zoologist, who describes the colonies of coral polyps as "the perfect model of the Communism because when one mouth eats, all the stomachs get food".
I would even suspect that Perrier read Spencer before talking about corals in "Les Colonies animales et la Formation des organismes" (Paris:Masson, 1881); because Spencer wrote "Principles of Biology" in 1864 and this other book of Spencer looks like Perrier couldn't have missed to read Spencer for his job of zoologist!

Requires cleanup[edit]

I found this page while doing a 'could of' typo search, and it contains a gigantic amount of unsourced and typo-ridden text (see edit history). I've added a cleanup banner and hope someone with knowledge of the subject can turn this into a useful article. Then again, it might only be necessary to revert this edit, in which a user pasted 159,724 bytes into a 2,601 byte article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FekketCantenel (talkcontribs) 15:38, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

After a second look, I saw that the pasted text was some sort of unsourced essay, and removed it completely. The page might still require some cleanup (and approval of my removal of the offending text), so I'll leave the banner in place. FekketCantenel (talk) 15:46, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
