Statistics[edit]

You want to know how much is paid out in Social Security benefits?

here is a list of tables that give all that information on a monthly basis

and here is SSI

a nice fact sheet on those who receive benefits, including average benefits

And in here you should be able to find the costs spent on running the administration

Enjoy, if I don't get around to this before you do..... and I have a lot of work to do elsewhere, so you better beat me to it. KV(Talk) 01:57, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some inaccurate history, under "Leaders"[edit]

I was looking for something else, and noticed the short section that supposedly shows the "Chairmen of Social Security Board". But the Social Security Board only existed until 1946.

Historical Information: Social Security Board

And then ... "The Social Security Administration (SSA) came into being on July 16, 1946. Prior to this time, the Social Security program was administered by a three-person Social Security Board. The Board was abolished in a government reorganization and replaced by the SSA, with a single Commissioner as its head."

Historical Information: Social Security Commissioners

So there should only be two names as Chairmen of SSB, then a rather long list of Commissioners, if it's useful repeating all that info here, which I doubt. I don't have time right now to clean this up. Will come back later and see what it will take. NameIsRon (talk) 15:12, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering if anyone noticed any updates on this story in the news? Ottawahitech (talk) 21:42, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Article Feedback Pilot[edit]

I noticed that the Category:Article Feedback Pilot has been removed from this article. I just wonder why it got added initially and why it has been removed. Just nosy, I guess:-) Ottawahitech (talk) 21:49, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey[edit]

In 2011 employees of the SSA rank the SSA as one of the best managed federal agencies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Npnaughton (talkcontribs) 01:57, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Coverage[edit]

The "Coverage" section states in part that "SSA's coverage under the Social Security Acts originally extended to nearly all workers. . . ." While that is the rule today, it wasn't "originally." The original Social Security Act did not cover agricultural workers, the self-employed, Federal employees, members of the armed forces, State and local government employees, railroad employees, domestics, physicians, and probably others. Coverage was gradually extended to these categories over the years, sometimes under unique provisions (such as Section 218 for some State and local employees, which the article discusses). The SS bureaucracy for many years included many specialists on who was and was not "covered" by the Act, because that was not a simple matter to figure out. Also, I believe (I'm not sure) that the original Act mainly applied only to those who worked for large employers, that is, employers who had a minimum number of employees. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eddie vantage (talk • contribs) 11:12, 10 July 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eddie vantage (talkcontribs)
