Situational Judgement Test Article Project[edit]

As you can tell by looking at this article there is not a lot of information on this article. So we are going to be adding a few substantial references and examples. We also wanted to start adding a little bit more of an explanation of exactly what the SJT is. Each group member will be adding at least one references and a few more ideas to the page.

If you have any other suggestions just let us know. We are open to any ideas

Looks like a good idea; the article could benefit from expansion. At the moment it's dominated by a couple of "pro" and "anti" lists - would it be possible to develop a little more prose about what SJTs do, how they're developed, or who uses them? bobrayner (talk) 17:40, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This thesis article has a lot of substance of what a SJT finds, and there are a lot of citations (example:Campbell, McCloy, Oppler, & Sagger, 1993;Pulakos et al., 2000, p. 615; McDaniel, Morgeson,Finnegan, Campion & Braverman, 2001, p. 730) that seem good to dig deeper into about studies, pros/cons, etc.

According to the Public Service Commission of Canada the SJT is defined as a test that assess judgement required for solving problems in the work force. The SJT is a test that consists of hypothetical situations dealing with workplace dilemmas. In response to each hypothetical situation the individual taking the test is given five possible action that they would take give if they were in the situation.

HISTORY

According to Carl J. Swander, Situational Judgement Tests have been around for over fifty years. The first two that were documented were the How Supervise? (File, 1945) and the Cardall Practical Judgement Test. In 1958 the Supervisory Practice Test came about by Bruce and Learner. The Supervisory Practice Test was to point out whether or not supervisors could handle certain situations on the job. This test is said to effectively identify who could and could not be a supervisor.

The SJT did not really take off and become a great use in the employment field until the early 1990's. This is what I have found so far. I found a whole dissertation on the history of SJT but I am not sure how in depth we want to go. (Amgardner13 (talk) 17:29, 1 March 2012 (UTC))[reply]


Three Dimensions to Judgement

Levine and Ash proposed three dimensions to judgement: direction, intensity, and persistence. These dimensions work to influence the outcome of behavior. (LISA FELDMAN BARRETT and JEAN M. Peer review followup[edit]

Hi, I think that some good improvements have been made following the peer review, but there is still room for improvement.

  • Duplicated references: This is just a presentation problem, not a content problem, but a References list with lots of repeated entries looks a little ugly. It shouldn't take long to tidy them up so they all look like the first one.
  • The examples are quite lengthy, and the markup isn't great. This makes the article a little less readable; it might even raise concerns about copyright if they're directly copied from elsewhere. It might be helpful to trim them a little and put them in a quotebox (with attribution) to make it absolutely clear that it's a quote rather than pretending that it's "your" writing. (Writing your own examples could be problematic for other reasons).
  • Apart from that concern in the middle of the article, the top and bottom look good; the prose is fairly well written and properly sourced.
  • The latter part of the article is very heavy on bullet points. Sometimes they're unavoidable, but I think that at least one of those sections could be converted into prose.
  • In principle, the lede should summarise what the body of the article says (so, in a perfect world, you should rarely need refs in the lede because everything is discussed in more detail and properly referenced further down the article). However, the lede of this article makes some points (ie. "bespoke") which aren't actually discussed in more detail in the rest of the article. Perhaps it's possible to expand on these points?

Critique from your prof[edit]

Criticisms from a professor/academic viewpoint:

  1. You use the phrase "the situational judgement test" in several places, but I don't think it is grammatically correct nor accurate. SJTs are a type of test, and to my knowledge there is no "the test". Thus, you can talk about Situational Judgement Tests, but not "the" SJT.
  2. In the introductory section, I am not sure what the following statement means: "The SJT could also reinforce the status quo with an organization".
  3. You have repeated references in your reference list, rather than using the a,b,c,d etc. wikipedia system.
  4. I'm not sure the bulleted list approach for the last several sections is effective. Consider revising into organized paragraphs.
  5. The masters thesis you cite is an acceptable source, but I think you are relying on it too much and there is too much emphasis on it. I think it's good to provide some examples of SJTs, but not too highlight the one created in the thesis research as necessarily a good one.
  6. Please try to expand on the validity section. The distinction between "knowledge" and "behavioral tendencies" requires more explanation, I think.
  7. Please carefully proof read for grammatical errors.

All of the good sources that I find are pdf journals, which makes the warning banners come up. I added to validity and history a small bit, and still trying to find proper sources for information on "knowledge" and "behavioral Tendencies". I have also begun to go through and remove all of the inappropriate "the"s. Revised the masters thesis section but removing the examples and cutting it down some. Those templates...those are called cleanup templates (Wikipedia:Template messages/Cleanup). They can be removed when all issues have been addressed. You need to add some wikilinks ([[Help:Links#Wikilinks)..the tone is off in some places...the examples need answers, and "Today, SJTs are used in many organizations, are promoted by various consulting firms, and are researched by many." should give a few major organizations (Fortune 500, etc.).
