Copyvio problem and reference cite cleanup[edit]

A large paragraph in the center of the introduction seems to be copyvio from http://www.school-portal.co.uk/GroupHomepage.asp?GroupID=33948 and needs to be re-written.

I've also found references for many parts of the article, though some sections still needed to be tagged {{citeneeded}} for now.

Note that from the tone and structure of the text, I suspect that the section on the school coat of arms is also copyvio.

As I suspected, the 3 coat of arms paragraphs are copyvio. See [1] and [2]. --Stephane Charette 08:26, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia/pranks[edit]

Could somebody explain to me what's so notable about some prankers panting the school clock tower pink, or one class swapping their study room with another, etc. ? - Mike Rosoft 16:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because it is a tradition that the final day of Year 13 is called "Leavers' Day". How well each year carries out its pranks, and the audacity to which they are carried out, affects how well remembered each year is. Virtually every 6th form class has had the references to the Great Common Room Switch up on the e-whiteboards at Borlase this week, and it was felt, for that reason, that it had therefore gained the "notable" requirement necessary to be displayed. --Birdie100 12:57, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it worth metnioning Anthony Culyer CBE, a founding father of health economics, Professor of Economics at the University of York (UK) and Research Professor of Health Policy and System Design at the University of Toronto. He was for many years chair of the Economics Dept at York and Deputy Vice-Chancellor.Alphaluc (talk) 14:52, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alumni[edit]

Alumni who are not cited as alumni of the school need to be removed from the list or citations need to be provided. under WP:BLP this is mandatory when the alumnus still lives. Obviously it is also advisable when the alumnus is dead. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 12:00, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That is the subject of much (as yet unresolved) recent discussion: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Schools#School alumni edit. Any thoughts you might have would be welcome. Personally, I favour the approach summed up by "every entry added should at minimum have an article, or a reference if it is a redlink to at least provide some support that it might merit an article". As for WP:BLP, the key issue is whether or not this information is "contentious", and if it is, then what aspect of a BLP could not be contentious? Edwardx (talk) 13:06, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've just deleted several names and added a reference for every redlink where a decent article should be possible. Edwardx (talk) 13:53, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done I hope my opinion helps. The offering of such opinions drives, forms and changes consensus. Such discussions may be held within Wikiprojects, but wider consensus on Wikipedia as a whole needs to be the 'standing orders' we work under. Some people will view their attendance at a particular school as contentious. One cannot say what is and is not contentious to another individual, thus citations protect Wikipedia and protect the individual, unless, of course, one is Jimmy Savile when nothing on earth would protect his reputation. Thank you for taking the time to read all of that, and for your helpful commentary. The alumni section for this school was certainly unsatisfactory, and I hope I've removed enough names and added enough references for the redlinked names to make it broadly okay. More work still needed, of course! See my talk page for a more general reply in respect of the issues. Edwardx (talk) 16:30, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
