According to articles in the New York Times (which you can look up by googling "Lady Mordaunt"), the illegitimate child was a son. NoirFemme (talk) 01:04, 22 April 2008 (UTC)NoirFemme[reply]

A number of books refer to a boy (or a child), but she definitely was a daughter. She became the Marchioness of Bath and so her life is well documented. The Hamilton family, who inherited Walton Hall in 1961, found a large cache of papers relating to the divorce scandal; Elizabeth Hamilton wrote a book about it and articles in the Daily Telegraph (2001-2) that draw on this state quite specifically that Harriet Mordaunt's daughter was named Violet.IXIA (talk) 06:11, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
